Colour Within Lines [1Y11M]

I first started Angel with crayons when she was 21 months old. I prefer and encouraging her to draw on a blank piece of paper rather in a drawing book with characters hoping that she would be able to learn drawing starting from zero, colour them wherever she likes, no boundaries, no rules to follow and that piece of paper is her only limitations. I do not wish to suppress her little imaginations with lines and rules as a start.

So after few months of drawings, finally I bought her one of those Micke*y Mouse colouring book and she seems so happy to see it. (Yes, she loves Micke*y Mouse) I show her how to colour Mickey Mouse’s ears but she refused to pay attention to be and continue scribbling all over the pages like what she used to do with her plain drawings block. Well, I just let her be and move on to do my own things. After awhile, she is telling me …..

“Nose ~~~ Nose ~~ ”
“Ok Angel, you see nose is it? Yes, nose! Mickey’s nose …. ” and continue with my laptop without looking at her

“Eyes ~~ ”
“Eyes ….. Yes, Eyes. Where is the eyes, lets show mommy ….” So I put down my laptop and I saw this this ……

^ ^Left: She tried to colour Pluto’s nose with red colour and also Pluto’s eyes and mouth with black colour …… but of course, she can’t do them nicely yet ^_^

^ ^Right: Few days later, I saw her drawing these freehand lines on her colouring book, I even asked hubby was he the one drawing them and he said no.

Yes …. My girl is started to understand what lines are and also since I started her with colours couples of weeks back, I can see that she starts to observe her world in colours now although sometimes still mistaken purple for blue, pink for orange, etc. I am impressed that she is showing positive signs of development :) Here are some of her first time colouring work (Yes, colouring within those lines for a start) although it’s not perfectly done yet and the colour is not correctly placed too LoL But at least she has gotten the idea of doing it now. These few pieces of colouring work really have such special meaning to me :) My little girl is really growing up fast now :)

^ ^Top Left: All characters was in orange
^ ^Top right: Green Mickey Mouse?
^ ^Lower Left: Eyes were brown in colour but I am not sure about Daisy’s eyes though
^ ^Lower Right: Her first trial of colouring, she do all of them except Micke*y’s ear was done my me :P

Angel is very good in colouring. Much much better than Gwen.

she did very well!!!!! i like the first pix of pluto with black eyes... she is getting the hang of it already :)

MommyAngel said...

MummyGwen, har ….that’s consider good ah? Hahaha ….. you are really kind MummyGwen, a kiss from Angel to you *muaks*

Kristie, hahahaha … I love that too and if she didn’t tell me “eyes” in the first place, I didn’t know that she is actually trying to coloured them. I will be thinking that she hates Pluto coz that’s what we normally do to a picture when we hate someone :P hahahaha ….

Wow, Very good work done Angel. You are a smart girl. You already seem to have got the hang of it.

am quite reluctant to let chloe hold a pen until now since she will draw on the floor as well as on the wall!!!! Oh no!!!

the more i asked her to stop and the harder she wanna draw on the wooden floor.. so headache la!!!!

color pencil?? hahaha.. not for her yet gua.. :P

anyway, i believe it's very good start for angel

MommyAngel said...

Yaggya, Thanks ..... I guess she is for a start :)

2ma, oh ya … I just can’t wait to see her first real drawings which I can understand but I am contented with what she is able to ‘produce’ at the moment :P

Ping, hahahaha .... Maybe Natalie has her own thinking and own style of drawings leh :)

Agnes, oh ..... Angel also does that all the time especially when she sees that I am not looking her way. But normally I will let her hold the pens and crayons when I am sitting in front of her (to minimized the damages she will be doing to the furniture) but still, I start to see some pen marks on her books and also the sofa, luckily the sofa is dark colour so can’t really see the lines from the pen! That’s why I am looking for a erasable pen and if you ever find one in the market, let me know ya .....
- Oh my, yours is wooden floor ah? Luckily mind is those mosaic .... or else, it will surely leave a deep marks on those wooden plank. Oh dear .... kids are always like that, the more we asked them not to, they will do it more, kids!
- why not try crayons? The crayons which I got for Angel is washable one and no marks leave behind wor. The brand is Crayola but I got mine from a fair in MV so don’t know where the shop is but there is another brand ELC which can get from sunway pyramid, it’s a washable marker pen.

*clap clap* Angel is indeed a big girl now. I'm so impressed that she can distinguished between eyes & nose, and can even colour the whole picture by herself. Ashton will just scribble here and there a bit, and that's it...

And she can draw really accurate lines? Really well-coordinated. Good job Angel... You've really made mummy & daddy proud of you...

So each day how many pieces of art can she produce?

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, of course Angel is able to distinguished between nose and eyes coz she likes to poke my eyes for some reason :(

Hhhmmm, I am not sure whether she can draw accurate lines coz whenever I asked her to, she refused until I saw that piece of paper which she does. Well, I will know later when I start to let her do some tracing and I do hope she enjoys them :)

Normally ah ….. she will do around 2 – 3 pieces of art in a week depends on her mood. I have to asked her whether she wants to draw draw or not and if she nodded then I will take the paper to her or else, she will just tear the paper and play with it instead. So hoping to start Ashton on his drawing soon ya?

Esmeralda said...

Haha... kesian this mummy... the eyes being poke... why ya? For me, Ashton loves to hit my head right on top whenever I said "Ashton, if u dun behave, mummy will ta-ta"... usually he will come and hit me first...

Yup I've bought some drawing papers & crayons for him already, but seems that he's not that interested. All he did was draw few lines, then collect all the crayons n olay wid d crayons instead!!!

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, hahahahha ... oppssss sorry dear, can't help it coz when I imagine you are saying "Mummy will ta ta" suddenly mummy kena hit on the head pula, hahahahaha.

Luckily, Angel will not do that coz she don't know what is "Tata" actually, normally we will say "tata" but end up me chasing her and she is running very happily so I think she don't really know what those words actually were. However she knows what is rotan la coz everytime I will say "I take rotan if you don't come here" and she is afraid that we will hit the rotan on the table like what we normally does (I am glad it's the table, pity our table) and then you know what, even I am chopping the chicken / meat, she will be horrified too(until now) and come asking me "no no no ..... pah pah" and cling to my leg, hahahahahhaa .... then when I stop, she will say, "Oh ..... nish (finish)" and making the finish hand sign.

Angel also not very interested when she first start to draw (you can see her first drawing, only a few light line here and there) but after few attempts, she is more ok with it. BTW, What is "Olay" with the crayons instead???

Esmeralda said...

You chasing her? I can't chase Ashton when he's playing, else he'll run even faster and worried that he will toppled over. You see, at home he doesn't walk - he runs... so u can imagine my heart will skip a beat everytime he missed the corner wall by just 1cm... so imagine if I were to chase him, I think he can sprint even faster.... some more in our limited space here.

Oh... she is scared of the rotan ya? I don't have a rotan at home lei... Hahaha... chopping chicken also she thought is rotan ah? So funny lar Angel.... Ashton still dunno how to say finish but he will use his sign languages for most of the things.

Ooopsss.. sorry about the olay...it's play!

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, ya ….. you are right about never chasing toddlers at home coz it’s really dangerous but sometimes she see me coming, she will run fast and when I saw her run fast, I am afraid that she is toppled over so I run faster to stop her but luckily my house is not that large before I manage to catch her. Oh my, everytime I saw Angel running my heart will beat so fast too and when she runs, really got pattern one coz her body move faster then her feet, everytime I saw her body bending to the front as if almost tip over to the front with her hands both stretching out and her body out of balance already, somehow her feet ‘catch up’ and she balance herself up ….. you get what I mean ah? Hahahahha …… everyday I will see this kind of ‘stunt’ and I everytime I almost have heart attack to especially when I saw a sharp edge (cupboard, table, etc) in front of her. But sadly this chasing game will happens everyday at home especially during 1) diaper changing time 2) Bath time 3) Clothes Changing time after bath / wash pet pet. She will run away whenever she could. You don’t have to catch Ashton for all these??

Ashton should be happy that no rotan at home. Actually our rotan is from my mom coz she tidy up the storeroom and found the one she use for us last time so she pass it down to us lo, hahahahaha ….. but that rotan is not even 15cm long la, more like a chopsticks but longer a bit la, don’t know why so short.

Esmeralda said...

I also thought the same like you - if Ashton were to run, I must run faster to catch him, but usually end up he will be more excited when he saw me till sometimes he runs but the eyes are looking behind, so usually will knock onto something. So usually when he got excited, I stopped chasing him and go away... Hahaha.. let him "syiok sendiri" there lor while I call him to come to where I am, distracting him with something else.

Hahaha.. Angel's running pattern is "2x5" like Ashton's when he's excited! The body will bend forward more than necessary... and nearly toppled over. Once, he's so excited when hubby came home. He chased hubby into the study room where hubby wanna "unpacked" putting his keys, bag, etc... and before we knew it, he was doing some "somersault stunt" flying & rolling to hubby's feet if u understand what I'm talking about (I couldn't control myself when I recall this incident - laughed by myself like a mad woman now *lol*). Luckily he didn't hurt himself, and was very quick to get up - as if nothing happen!

Talking about running away, YES - Ashton will run away when it's diaper changing time with his cheeky smile showing me that he purposely did that so that I will chase him & drag him back! But bath time he is very obedient. Whenever I told him "let's take bath", he will quickly stand outside the bathroom waiting for me to prepare the bath water, etc. If I told him that and were too slow (sometimes still blogging *sigh*) he will keep pulling my pants/shirt, and getting fussy till I move to the bathroom. He really loves his bath time!

Wah... hand-me-down rotan some more... what a sentimental value lei... Hehe... the rotan used for me & my bro has all been broken down by my bro lei last time... Maybe your rotan already been broken down by your bro/sis? Yup we don't have rotan at home, but I have "wooden spoon" & rubber band instead... kekekekeke...

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, hahahaha …. So funny of Ashton lar but when talking about waking / running with eyes watching behind, I think no one will be ‘terror’ then our little Angel. She will knock into everything everyday when she was out, dusbin la, flower pot la, doors la (numerous time), my computer la, the table corners la, the walls la, so my eyes is basically with her all the time if she starts to walk outside. Hahaha … ‘syiok sendiri’ kekekekeke ….. so funny la you Esmeralda :P

Kekekeke …. I guess Ashton must be too excited to see daddy and can’t wait to go near daddy so if the feet don’t ‘works’ anymore, use the rolling la, crawling la, like hakka use to say, pa-tu-pa-dao-hi (crawl also will crawl till he reaches), hahahaha ….. Ashton Ashton, really is so funny la. During that time he must have not mastered how he walks yet right?

Angel loves her bath time too but she still wants me to chase her before her bath coz she knows I will coz I really can’t wait for her to lambat lambat where I got so many things to do still :) Ya, same here if I told her to get ready to bath but I am not ready yet, she will cry and cry pulling me till I go to the bath room then, whooossss …. She run away again wanting me to catch her and bring her to the bath room pula *slap forehead* Luckily when Ashton loves it and he really mean it and not like my Angel, loves it but pretend don’t want and I think somehow kids will do that hor when they gets older ……

Ya ….. about the rotan I actually did heard my mom said it’s already been broken but still, she wants to pass it to me coz she she has been keeping in her storeroom for years already :) Wooden spoon?? Kakakakaka ….. that’s surely is painful, hahahaha …. I never use wooden spoon but when I can’t find my rotan, I will use my comb to hit the table but don’t let angel saw it coz it does makes sound as if it was the rotan. But our girl really 38 one, she will always peep to see whether it’s the rotan that making that sound, hahahaha ….. yah or, I really need to find a rubberband la but that doesn’t scare her as much as the rotan hitting the table sound wor :(

Esmeralda said...

Huh? Angel still knocking into something when out? She's too excited when out is it? Poor girl. So did she hurt herself usually?

Yup he's so excited when he saw his dad... so any stunts will do... Haha... when he feel down, he quickly got up to 'finish the race' to reach his dad! *lol* Well, actually I told you that he usually don't walk much, he rather runs... so when it comes to walking, he can't really walk straight.. he tends to sway to the side a bit if he were to go slow... *sigh*

Angel loves you chasing her lar.. that's why.... I can't imagine if you were chasing her in the mall...

Talking about wooden spoon, of coz it's painful but I don't beat too hard lar... just enough for him to shed his tears... kekeke.... so bad ya.... I think rubber band is very versatile and convenient when we were outside... keep one in my bag...just in case... Haha.. Angel really see whether it's the rotan or not is it? If not the rotan, will she still be afraid? Ashton will copycat too when he saw me with the wooden spoon beating the table. He will take other things to do that too! *lol* He will do that, and said "ma-ma" too...

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, yes, she will bimp into everything everyday still coz she always walk with head turn 180 degree to the back looking at something, so most of the time, you will see her bumping into the glass doors or walls in front of her but the must funning one is bumping into the stainless steel dusbin, hahahahhaaha ….. so loud and the dusbin almost fall down but of course we know that she will and already place our hand in front of her head to protect her, LoL

I think Ashton walks that way maybe because he is consider very tall at his age? You know …. ‘Gravity point’ is too high that’s why he tends to sway a bit when he walk slow …. :) But I think slowly, he will be more ok la coz actually wanted them to walk slowly is almost impossible LoL Cute!!! So he is daddy’s boy or mommy’s boy??

But at least he will cry when you beat her, I tried the rubberband with Angel last time but she will just scratched scratched a bit and nothing happens wor …. Hubby said normally naughty kid got thick skin and I really believe that coz it is for Angel :)

Of course if she see it’s not rotan she will totally ignore me la, hahahaha …. So far she is just afraid of the rotan only, don’t know why. Hahahahaha …. He did that ah? Hahahaha …. Actually I do find that kids mimic our action quite a lot so sometimes when Angel get hold of the rotan, she will use the rotan to knock on the table too :) Then sometimes I asked her to ‘beat’ papa but she just lightly tap on his tight coz she is afraid that we will ‘cry’. Coz when she was around 1 yrs old, she likes to hit our face but then we always pretend to cry very very loud and that horrifies her, so now even we asked her to ‘beat’ someone, she just lightly tap on them, hahahaha …….

As Ashton will mimic you with the wooden spoon tapping the table, I think it will be fun to get him a drum set leh, what do you think???? But of course, it will be noisy la :)

Esmeralda said...

Wah.. Angel so "cute" one wah.. bumping into almost everything, but luckily mummy & daddy is always protecting her! :D Big dustbin some more!

Yeah.. I do agree with u regarding the gravity point... Making him walk slow is impossible... kids...! Hehe... he is both daddy & mummy's boy...

Talking about rubber band, when he is really very stubborn, even I use d rubber band on him, he will show me the other hand for me to beat him some more... telling me that "look, it's not painful OK... I'm a tough boy!"... so making me sometimes really "kek sam"...

Well, kids have to be afraid of 1 thing at least, else he/she will be an uncontrollable kid..

Haha.. luckily when Angel get hold of the rotan she will not beat you oh since u r the one using it the most on her right? Kekekeke...

Such a sweet girl.. just a light tap? And she's scared with daddy & mummy being hurt? Oh.. that really melt ur heart don't she? Haha... Ashton if I pretend to cry for long time also no feeling one.. he don't bother... cold hearted...

Drum set? Not yet... haha... even if I did buy him one, it'll be stationed at my mum's...

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, she is always so ‘tai-tao-ha’ one most of the time. Even now if she sit on the sofa, sometimes she will also fall down from the sofa onto the floor crying out loud of course, not because she cannot balance herself, it’s that sometimes she just ‘forgot’ that she is sitting on a chair!! @_@

Eh … last time Angel will also do that, once I use the rubberband on her left hand, she will also show me her right hand leh …. Hahahaha. How come ah? Oh … don’t be kek sam, I think if Ashton is older like Angel, you will be vomit blood too coz lately I really feels that she is getting tougher and tougher to ‘manage’, even hubby start to look at her in despair and say, “How come it’s getting tougher and tougher to deal with you when you gets older ah, Angel ~~~~” LoL

Oh … she will not beat us with the rotan coz so far, she only saw us hitting the table so I think she didn’t know / think of that actually the rotan can be use to hit ppl gua ? LoL When I get the rotan out, she is afraid because of the loud sound of me hitting the table, but luckily she is afraid la.

I think Ashton pretend to didn’t bother at all is not because she is cold hearted la, he is such a sweet boy leh, maybe because he don’t know how to react to mummy’s crying. Last time Angel pretend not seeing me crying too then I noticed she don’t know what should she do and what has she done wrong and what’s mummy doing …. Now that she knows already so she will show that she cares (most of the time la). Actually hor, Angel is really such a sweet girl and always will saying other kid softly. Sometimes when she plays with other kids, always kena hit by other kid and she won’t fight back, just come back crying and holding onto her painful arms with a big red marks (sometimes those kids will really cubit her arms and hit her on the face one) so hubby is quite angry sometimes and asked her to hit the kid back LoL, but don’t know la, sometimes I quite pity her also always kena buli *heart pain*

Huh? Why at your mom’s place leh? Your mom helps taking care of him now ah?

Esmeralda said...

Haha... aiyor... pity girl lar... can fall down from the sofa some more? Ashton did fall down from the sofa, but he was climbing it, trying to climb down by the side of it, but I guessed he lost his balance & knocked his head!

Well, in my opinion, they jst wanna make us more angry and "kek sam"... and somehow they know that we won't beat them very harsh! Hubby always have better patience than us from what I think, coz they deal with them lesser than us!@

Maybe it's time for me to get a rotan lar... try to scare him, but mark my word, I think he will be a copy-cat and go around beating ppl whenever he sees a stick/rotan/etc...

Aiyor.. pity girl... kena buli some more... who did she play with till so rough oh!!! Of coz heart pain lar... I won't let her play lar if I were you... pity girl...Such a sweet girl, will sayang ppl some more.... Ashton dunno how to do that lar.. everytime I need to hold his hand and tell him to sayang, but have to hold him to do the "act" else he will just go away oh... maybe he hasn't been exposed to lots of kids before...

Nolar... My mum help me look after him whenever I need to do some errands or buy some groceries (lazy to bring him out coz difficult and wasting time)... usually 2-3hrs in the afternoon. So usually he will have his nap there, before going back.

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, hahahaha …. I think kids just want our attention la. But I think even you got the rotan you won’t be really using it and it will become one of Ashton’s toy soon la ;)

Those kids who bully her is someone we didn’t know in the play area but I think most kid likes to hit ppl leh. Even we walk pass some kid (younger then Angel) and Angel loves babies / kid and would surely go and approach them and they will suddenly ‘attach’ her and pull her hair / wanted to bite her, I was so shock to see kids can be so violence, hahahaha. Can’t stop her from wanted to mingle with other kids too coz she just loves kid a lot. But I also saw some kid who is so nice to her, coz Angel has a bad habit that she wants to hold the toy which other ppl is holding (don’t know why) but some kids are so nice to give their toy to her. We always told her not to do that but she will now snatched la so far, luckily. Will Ashton do that too?

Oh, I really understand how was it to bring a kid along when we have something to ‘settle’, things need an hour normally will become 5 hours unsettle, hahahahhaa ….. it’s good that you can have your own breathing space for 1-2 hours per day. I am not so lucky, basically I am with Angel 7/24 and no breathing space for me at all until my mom pays me a visit. Ya, that’s true :)

Esmeralda said...

True true.. sooner or later the rotan will turn into his toys...

Poor Angel... Did u tell her to be careful with kids - some will hit her? Did she understand?

I think Ashton is the opposite. He doesn't bother about other kids, even though in church there's some kids that wanna play with him (ie shake hands, touch him, etc) but he just won't bother... Proud eh? He just play with his own things, and usually will cling to me if there's lots of ppl (grown-ups) around, esp in the mall. But when I show him baby/kids' photo on the magazines, on the computer (ie Angel's pic) he will point to them and smile/laugh, but in real person, he just don't bother.. Why ya?

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, ya …. Poor her always kena ‘hit’ but I don’t know how to tell her to be careful coz kids are very naïve and pure, I don’t want her to feel ‘defensive’ over other kids. Maybe I will wait until when she can express herself and asked me question then only I will tell her about so I know how she take the word “be careful”. Haven’t you see kids who likes to hit ppl real hard and want to jump onto kids and bite them??? I have seen one who is 1 years old girl, oh … her eyes looks as if she is going to kill you when she attack!! Gosh ….. but the mother just smiling there watching her kid wanted to bite Angel and hit her head (while I pull Angel away from the girl) and the mother actually think it’s cute!! @_@

Maybe Ashton not used to playing with kids? Everytime we go out if we saw kid, we will asked her to approach them and shake hand with them la or show her what should she do with the kid like hold his/ her hand la, saying him/ her la and now she knows what to do but start to show that she is ‘shy’ after she hold his/ her hand and come back running and smiling and hide behind me and peek on them pula, hahahahaa……

Esmeralda said...

Aiyor... I've seen worst! Kids that can really smack up even an adult. I dunno what has gone into them! Gosh... and the mum can still laugh!!! If I were her, I'll be very apologetic & 'pai seh' lor.. dragging my kid away and make sure he got a good smack! Haha... fierce lei me...

Haha.. Angel so cute... after shaking hands with the kids can turn shy some more... Yes Ashton not used to playing with kids, that's why.. He's more shy when he's outside...when we asked him to shake hands with the kids, we have to literally hold his hand towards the kid's hands before he 'warm-up'.. But at home, hmmm.. he can dance and shake his butt towards his fav songs like no ones business... Talk about shy....

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, hahahahaha ..... Ashton is so funny la!! Enjoy reading how you describe his little action at home.
