1,2,3 and A,B,C [1Y10M]

The time has come, It surely was a great milestone achieved on Angel’s development. In terms of speech progress,

1) she is taking her own ‘sweet time’ and she speaks not many words which make sense to us as yet despite a few simple single / double words so far. She babbles a lot in her own baby language still.

2)
she refused to co-operate with us most of the time if we asked her to point and tell / speaks … naughty little girl. She would only communicate / point whenever she feels like it *urrgh ...*

Hence most of the time, I am taking it slowly and let her progress / developed her skills at her own pace, helping along the way (i.e. I do the readings / singing and she just listens of follow if she likes to) and giving her more encouragements and praises, hoping that she will be more opened up in her speech and not being afraid to speak up.

So last week when my mom told me that Angel recites her ABC and 123 to her, I didn’t believe her at first until I heard her myself. What a surprise!! So after a few days of waiting, finally I managed to capture some ‘evidence’ using my mobile phone (she hate camera!) to show her daddy who was also having the same reaction as me :D

*****************************************************************
1 - 10
She could count 1 – 10 but still, she would pronounce Seven as ‘Tu-tu’ instead of ‘S-e-v-e-n’ :P She can’t pronounce Se- or -ven yet. (she just woke up from her sleep in the video, kekekeke)

******************************************************************

A - Z
She could recite A-Z but skipping the K and L in the video but these days, she has picked up the K and now waiting for the missing 'L' to join in the family :) She would also pronounce the ‘W’ as “Tu-tu” coz she couldn't say 'W' :P. This is actually the very first few times that she actually recite her ABC to my mom of course. We were expecting her first few ABCDE for a start actually but was surprised that she could do so many letters for a start .. cheeky little girl.

*******************************************************************

More Surprises to Come?
Few days after that when we was at the train station, suddenly hubby rushed towards me telling me that Angel could read numbers!!! Hahahaha ….. I laugh at him of course telling him that Angel is reciting her 1 - 10 actually. Hubby shook his head furiously and told me Angel could really READ the numbers …… so what hubby did was he walked to the platform and asking Angel to look up on the singboard of Platform Number 4 and Angel spotted it happily and pointed to the signboard calling out
Angel: Fourrrr …..

Then we walked to platform Number 5, Angel quicky pointed at the signboard happily saying
Angel: Fiiiiive …..

Then we pointed at signboard platform Number 6,
Angel: Seixxx .....
*Pointing and smiling happily*

Then we walked back to platform 1 and once she saw it, she paused for awhile then pointing at it giggled happily and said
Angel: Onnne ….

Then we are so happy and walking to signboard Number 8 then she says
Angel: Eitttt …… (that’s how she pronounce 8, kekekeke)

When we reached home, I quickly grab and pointed at the remote control’s small little buttons and asked her again, she really could tell me the number 1 – 9 correctly (thinking hard of course) until I pointed at the number ‘0’ at the bottom expecting a 10 and she burst out
Angel: Oooo …… (as in the alphabet ‘O’).

I know it's a normal learning progress for kids her age but still, It’s just was such a magical moment to actually hear her saying her first sets of 123s and ABCs :) I just can’t stop myself from having this contented smiles on my face for the entire night, just can’t help it actually :) :) Now I am cracking my brain again, apart from continue to fine tune her complete sets of A - Z and 1-10, and also continue to exposed her on shapes, colours, drawings, stories readings, etc what other fun activities can I do with my little 1 year old coming to 2 next?

P/S: I am jotting these down for my remembrance of Angel's growing ups, so I hope it doesn't boded you all as I know it's quite a long winded post sometimes, can't help it though :P

Lemonjude said...

Very good, well done...don't worried on the pronoucation, they will get it correct later...my boy use to say seven as "seh-neh" and W as "neh-neh" at about her age. Now he is can read all accurately. Most important we got to read and teach them accurately.

You can buy those alphabet books, number books with objects or cardboard (those A-Z, 1-20) and paste on the wall. Read together its fun or those animal puzzle also ok...can let her play simple set puzzle now, sure she love it.

Mummy Gwen, thanks for your encouragement :)

Alicia, I think your girl is not interested in the 1-9 and A-Z lah coz I personally think that it’s boring too :P There must be something that interested her ….. :)

Serene, Angel couldn’t recognized all the alphabet as yet, because she always either are not concentrate enough or just lost her interest in ‘our game’ before I could do anything on it :) But nevermind la, the most important for the kids now is having fun while learning on the way ma ….. no rush :) Can Xixi sit still and learn? For Angel sure cannot so everyday I only manage to do that with her for …. 3 minutes max maybe :)

Doreen, thank you ya :) I think you will be as happy as me too when Ryan recite those to you when he gets older :) Hahaha …. It’s so fun to be a mother hor :)

2ma, oh … thanks so much dear :)

Anggie, wah …. 1-18 ah? That’s so great ….. wonder how you teach him leh? My girl is still having problems pronouncing those 2 letter words leh, so I was wondering should I teach her that …. But afraid that she will get too pressure too la coz she has short span of concentration. Maybe I should give it a try hor …. Your boy is clever? Normally what you did with him at home?

Nicole, Oh … you make me blush la Nicole, you are so kind and thanks for your support ya. Actually I did nothing much with her … normally I will have a quick few minutes time with her playing the ABC / 123 game …… like asked her where is A today, where is 1 hiding today etc ….. and everyday I will surely sing the ABCDEFG song to her and also the 1 little 2 little 3 little fingers song, etc and some other activities which is ‘fun’ lo, hahahaha ……. No books involved coz I know she will not be interested so I have to do it the other way round lo. Can have fun and learn at the same time also :)

Agnes, I think shapes and colours are hard to learn leh. I have tried colours with Angel but she just look at it like nothing …. So I also don’t know she gets me or not but nevermind la, can’t rush things with kids :) Chloe is really clever actually, from the way she talks and the way she master all her language skills, I surely think that she will grown up to be a well speaker …. A lawyer maybe :) So is just so cute lar!!

Lemonjude, hahaha W=Neh neh ah? I thought only Angel missed those pronunciation. Ok then …. I will just give it a rest and hopes that she picks them out herself :) Thanks Judy. Alphabet books I don’t think she will be interested coz she really have very short span of concentrations but her writing tables have all those letters and numbers. Oh … animal puzzle ah? Actually I have introduced her with those 4 pc block puzzle but she seems so lost in it and making it as a stacking game on the contrary, hahaha …… ya, reminds me that I have a small 10 pc puzzle which I bought for her long time ago, maybe I should give that a try. Thanks for sharing Judy :) Appreciate that so much :)

Rachel, hahahaha ….. after reading Merryn’s blog I was a bit hard working on Angel lo. As my same reply to Nicole …… Normally I will have a quick few minutes time with her playing the ABC / 123 game …… like asked her where is A today, where is 1 hiding today etc ….. and everyday I will surely sing the ABCDEFG song to her and also the 1 little 2 little 3 little fingers song, etc and some other activities which is ‘fun’ lo, hahahaha ……. No books involved coz I know she will not be interested so I have to do it the other way round lo. Can have fun and learn at the same time also :) I didn’t do much actually, just have fun for a few minutes with her everyday and stopped whenever she feels boring, that’s it.

Mummy Moon, thanks so much for liking those videos :)

PeiWun, indeed that is a huge steps for Angel hor …. :) Thanks :)

Cath, thanks Cath ….. no need jealous la, I was the one who need to be jealous lar coz at her age while I was still a toddler, what I know is watching TV and drink milk only leh, hahahaha :)

MommyAngel said...

Health Freak Mommy, yes indeed that is :) Kids just bring so much happiness into mommies’ life :)

Merryn, ya …. I know what you mean now coz I was like sooooooo happy when I first heard her ….. like striking 4D or something similar. But comes to think of it, it’s not a big deal actually but for no reason, it just feels so ………. ‘more then glad + proud of her’ and can’t stop myself from smiling non stop like a crazy woman, hahahaha … yup, just like wanna tells everybody in order to calm myself down a bit :) Truly magical and indescribable like you’ve said!! But I Hope I won’t be condemn though :P

This is really a magical moment and scene. Is true that you should jot them down. It is a big success for Angel and to you too Caroline, I am sure you have done a lot in teaching her.

If I am not wrong, is this the first time seeing Angel in video? If yes, please keep it up. I love and enjoy looking her and listening to her sweet voice.
- I was thinking, she pronounced the seven as Tutu is it because it is TUJUH in BM? Hehe...
She looked very fresh after wake up from her sleep. Not like Sarah, messy hair..hehe.

She still likes Thomas and Frens?
I like to hear she say Q..She said it like KIUUIT...hehe.

MommyAngel said...

Kristie, no .... we didn’t teach her to say Tutu, she just do that herself coz she wants to promounce it but didn't get it quite right LOL. It’s like when we asked her to say Moon and she always got it as “Maam” .... LOL, don’t know why :P But I can see her lips are trying to make the Se- and Ven- shape but her voice just came out like that .... :P

Jess, learn to argue with me soon ah???? @~@ I think it surely will be a lot of “FUN” for Angel la ..... hahahaha!

JT, actually I am one of the leaner mom leh as compare to others :) I think you will be as glad as me too when Sarah recite her ABC to you soon ..... trust me!!! :)
- hhmm ...... I think it’s the 2nd time I post up videos on Angel coz my video file always very big and everytime I tried to upload them it take ages so I just leave it lo until this time I got it in my handphone so the file is much smaller but still, take ages to upload. You face such problem as well??
- oh .... does she look fresh in the video where she just woke up? I think she has huge eyes begs there leh, kekeke!
- She still watch Thomas and Friends once in awhile but prefers Barney a lot la :)
- Oh ..... ya, the way she pronounce Q is very strange, hehehe …. Kids just have their own way of saying things ya :)

Kristie said...

hahaha really ah! really funny how she learned the word 'tutu' ya? i can watch the video again and again, super adorable, love her voice too... pretty husky and sexy hahah

Sarah's Daddy and Mommy said...

O, this is the second time you posted video of Angel? Ops, I think I missed the first one.
For me, I am ok with uploading video into blogspot. But one thing, of course if you have very long video, it will takes longer time to upload.
- Yes, at least Angel looked fresher than Sarah after she woke up from bed. The hair is so tidy..hehe.

MommyAngel said...

Kristie, thanks ….. does your Jayden starting to babble yet? You will be happier if he does, can’t wait to hear his voice lar …. Especially when they giggle :) :) You manage to capture any videos on that? Share with us ya :)

JT, oh …. My video normally is not more then 2 minutes but the file size is very big because we always use the higher resolution in order to get clearer picture :) I also long time didn't see you post up on Sarah's video hor ....

Kristie said...

ya caroline, will upload videos of jayden babbling when i'm free :)

Esmeralda said...

Gosh!! How can I miss out this post? Angel is so quite when she's reciting her ABCs & 123. Her eyes & expressions moved as she proceeded. Love her expression - so cute! Well done Angel... *clap clap* You've definitely made mummy & daddy proud! When I showed d videos to Ashton, he too smiled...

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, ya ..... in the video she does have a ‘different’ kind of action / look which she doesn’t normally show, hahaha!! As if she is saying ‘Look here mummy, I can recite my 123!’ :P The feeling of being able to witness this myself is really magical and priceless ..... I will certainly remember this episode of my little girl growing up forever :) Your time will come soon too and you’ll know what I mean *smile*

Esmeralda said...

Yup, she can recite her ABCs and 123s with so much confidence and enthusiasm ya..! And she can't wait for the next alphabets and numbers to come.. hehe.. I'm still crossing my fingers coz at this point of time, I'm not getting much words from him yet...

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, actually until now, Angel doesn’t speak much word still, she still babbles a lot most of the time just like a baby. Can say FEW single words and the only 2 words she knows how to pronounce is “FIRE”. That's it! She is really slow in terms of speech but I am not worried coz kids really have different pace when it comes to thing like this. Don’t want to pressure her too much also :)

Esmeralda said...

Haha.. what's with the FIRE word? Must be mummy & daddy taught her to fire ppl ya.. (just joking)...

Well, from the video, it looks like she's capable of speaking clear words ya...

Ashton only know few words like 'ma-mum', 'da-ddy', 'ty'(as in dirty)... that's all...

Yup, agreed. Kids have different speed when it comes to talking and walking... Just have to be patient lor..

Esmeralda said...

Oh yeah.. and his favourite word - CARRRR...

Hehe.. and why "tu-tu" for 7 lei? You taught her one? ;)

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, hahaha …. Actually Angel was trying to say ‘flower’ but came out ‘fire’ instead all the time LoL But I didn’t try to correct her at the mean time as I don’t want to de-motivate her coz I can see that she is trying very hard but just couldn’t get it right :)

Ya … from those video she seems like can pronounce most of the words hor ….. Ashton can pronounce car very clearly now? He really is very into his toy car now ya. Good, at least something to keep him occupied :)

As for Angel’s ‘tu-tu (as in Seven), like I’d told you, she can’t pronounce words making from 2 sound yet and that’s why she just simply make out another repeated word replacing the Seven. Same goes with the ‘W’ but she can understand both of them. She tried but just can’t pronounce them yet, can’t help her much in that so just let her practice lo. Sometimes really cannot understand how come she can’t speak a proper sentence yet but can recite A-Z so well without ‘practicing’ first. Really strange ….

Esmeralda said...

Haha... Hehe.. of all the words.. fire... creative lar..! And the "tu-tu" also so cute...

Ashton can pronouce "car" very clear now.. even very loud sometimes.. just that everytime I can't capture him on video...! Sometimes when he saw a picture of car in the mag/book, or when we were travelling and saw cars passing by, he will get very excited and point to the car saying "CAR, CAR"!!

Don't pressure her too much. She's done quite well already.. And I thought u said she's very slow in speech.. but I don't think so...!

So envy you lar... How did you teach Angel her ABCs and 123s? Is there any fixed time? Usually how long you spend the time teaching her?

Sorry for the long Qs ya..

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, hahaha … I think you should get your camera ever ready to capture his cute look pronouncing the “CAR” word! I think you must be laughing when hearing Ashton shouting out the words loudly :) I do!! Kids like to shout out those words that they knew … how cute!! Angel does that all the time too …. Kekekekeke.

Well, she is indeed very slow in terms of speech coz kids her age can speak in sentence already leh, ‘keng’ or not? Some can even sing songs very very cleary, the entire song!! Really clever!!!

As for Angel, I will repeat the ABC and 123 almost everyday to her and she just listen lo. I do not have a fixed time but mostly after her first bottle of milk, then I’ll just asked her she want to learn ABC or not and if she comes to me then I will let her sitting on my laps and recite to her and show her the ABC letters / 123. 5 - 10 minutes maybe everyday … she will move away or not paying attention to me when she is having enough so I just follow her clues. If her mood is right later in the afternoon, I will ask her again if she wants to learn ….. I am more linear on this la I guess :)

Esmeralda said...

Caroline, my camerais always with me near my notebook. Just that usually when he says "caarrrrrr" he is jst too fast - no notice one! Sometimes many times, but the moment I took out my camera, he jst stare at the camera and pretend to be "blur blur"! *slap forehead* Like just now I tried to capture him on video coz he is just too excited about the kids in Barney boarding the rocket & flying around, but by the time I started recording, he turns to the camera and be "blur blur"... Haha.. he is just too camera-shy lar.. Well indeed it's really cute when kids recite/shout the words that they knew only. Like just now I asked him to say "please", he kept on smiling only, and in the end said "kishhh" pula... *sigh*

Yup some kids are just slow, like Ashton. Like my lil' cousin who is a 2 weeks younger than Ashton
- she can say few sentences, and can sing some more. Amazing!

*Big sigh* Ashton never wants me to hold the flash cards out for him, or even his books. He wanna read (I mean look at) them by himself, so I hardly can teach him 123 or ABC oh! Any advice?

MommyAngel said...

“Flying in the airplane, looking by the window, up so very high …..” is that the song?? Hahahahaha ….. Ashton really is such a shy boy! Angel also does that once she saw the camera, stop whatever she is doing!! So normally to capture this ‘sepcial moment’. I will be using my handphone (just like the video, I am using my phone) coz she didn’t know I can take her picture with that (yet), kekekeke …..

Kishh … hahaha, I love to hear kids trying to pronounce the word but sometimes the other word coming out, hahahaha …. So cute!!! Angel also has been pronouncing the word “Moon” as Maaaammm for few weeks, hahaha…. So funny!! Angel also can’t way ‘pls’, now she will say ‘isss’ when I asked her to pronounce after me :)

Actually I think Angel and Ashton are EXACTLY the same!! Angel would wanted to hold the flash cards / flip the books pages after pages if I were to start flashing those cards / read her a story. So until today, I haven’t really had the chance to read her 1 complete story without interruptions yet. So for stories book, I will normally stopped when she starts to flip them (coz she has short time span of concentration too). If I were to continue, I know she won’t pay attention also :)

As for the flash cards, what I do is I never let her touch them and continue flashing to her. If after awhile she starts to make a fuss / cry for the cards, I will call it a day ( and also tell her because of her action, now mummy have to keep those cards away) and try to repeat to her again the next day. Day after day, she gets the message and knows that the cards are mommy’s property and if she make fuss, she will not get to see the cards again. Must be very persistent in your action!! So now although she will still fuss and wanted to hold the cards once in awhile (kids …..!!) but at least most of the day, I am able to make her seat still and look at those cards without any big problem. Good luck ya!! Jia yu!!

Esmeralda said...

Hehe.. yup that's the song... Too bad he knew that my hp can capture video, so it's quite hard to capture that 'moment'... unless I'm really lucky!

My boy is too persistent in wanting to get hold of the flash cards. Kept crying till have to give im most of the time oh... So really no chance to teach him with flash cards or books. But today I bought the big ABC & 123 cardboard-like poster & stick it up on the wall.. After half an hr d posters still sticking on the wall lar.. dunno when he will go and try to remove them.. I think maybe teaching him using the poster is much better coz I'm not holding them (and he won't grab it from me) - hope so...

Thanks..

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, the poster is a good tools to start with! Hahaahaha ….. it’s so funny when you said ‘After half an hour the poster still sticking on the wall’ …. Kekeke, actually Ashton is not that naughty also la, or else I think your cupboard, coffee table, floor matt, etc will be gone by now la :)

So update us with Ashton progress ya :)

Esmeralda said...

Yup coz he likes to remove things. Just like last time I stick the height chart there on the wall, and the next minute, torn up into 2 liao.. left the upper portion only *slapped forehead*

Luckily these posters are thicker and not easy to be torn... Yup definitely will update, hopefully soon.. ;)

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, hahahaha ..... same goes with Angel about her height chart la :)

Ok ok .... can't wait too :) Fingers crossed!!
