‘怕怕’(scared) Part 2

Since my 1st post of Angel’s '怕怕' (scared) behaviour, I can see that she is getting better and braver day by day she gets older. Somehow, when she does feel scare again, she will normally says ‘不怕! 不怕! ’ (Not afraid! Not afraid!) most of the time with a fearful look still on her face while tapping her own chests just like the way we comforting her. It’s so funny to see that she is feeling afraid and also comforting herself all at the same time :) So what’s her latest fear these days ………

Chopping sound from the chopping board

Yup! She is afraid of the chopping sound from the chopping board! In the pictures, she is having her dinner at our dinning table where hubby is chopping up our dinner – the roasted pork! As she was on her high chair having her meal, she can’t make a move so she covered her eyes to a degree that she is not looking at hubby who is doing his chopping while leaving a gap so that she could see her porridge :P. And when the sound went on until unbearable for her, suddenly she burst out into tears and cry out so loud with her hand still covering her eyes. Oh! my poor baby ....

She really tried very hard to be brave by cover up her eyes not to look at what daddy's doing while reaching for her meal

I guess the sould was just too awful to the ears of my little Angel

So in normal days whenever she heard the chopping sound from the kitchen, she would zoom into the kitchen to see what I am up to again and when she saw me doing my usual chopping, she will brave herself up while trying her very best to make sure her fuzzy eyes stays open while pointing to the chopping board and say ‘chicken’ (or whatever I am chopping) from a distance away. Slowly she would started to get uneasy and finally she would go behind me hiding her face in between my legs (yup!!!), pulling my pants with all she might and stumbled on the floor, whining and crying telling me that she is '怕怕' (scared) while shaking both my legs with all her strength asking me to stop! And once I finished, she will come out from between my legs and put on a big bright smile and say, “Oh …. OK! OK! Fi-nish!~~ ” and left the kitchen happily. I thought after I have explain and show her what mommy is doing she won’t be so nervous anymore ......... which does helps a bit but still, she just have this phobia of the sound and motion from us doing the chopping. But when she is doing those cutting and chopping with her own chopping set and creating so much noise pollution from them, she doesn’t seems to show a tiny but of fear in her face at all wor …………. ????

Oh poor Angel...so scared until crying already. That reminds me of Gwen who used to be afraid of the chopping board noise. But she grew out of it when I showed her where the sound coming from and do the chopping in front of her. She used to be afraid of blender and vacuum cleaner sound too. Now..not anymore.(I also showed her where the sound coming from. It takes time but eventually she gets the point.) :)

kesian nya!!! why like dat? as for ethan he sees everything dat i do, n he does it too so he is not really afraid. even if i need to blend something, he'll press the button for me. initially he gets shock when the blender spins but then he understands the concept. same goes with vacuum. is angel ok with vacuum cleaners n blenders? first time i heard of a child scared of chopping sound. poor girl! but brave girl for trying to overcome her fears!

Haha... my Ryan scared of extremely loud sound like the drums rhythm for the lion dance performance. He'll closed his eyes tight immediately till the sound subsides or turn softer. Good thing was he didn't cry at all. :D

Aiyoh, poor Angel scare until the hair all wet ah? I wonder what is your reaction when she hide her face in between your legs?

Esmeralda said...

Wow... daddy is so hands-on in the kitchen Caroline. Lucky you! :)

Aiyor... poor girl.. Scared d sound of chopping board till sweating? I think kids usually hide btwn our legs or behind us when there are afraid. Same goes to Ashton. I think to Angel, when she make the sound herself it's not scary at all, but if other ppl were to make the sound, it scared her! Hope that she will not be afraid of it soon ya!

Queenie, ya … I hope that she will grow up to be braver and stronger too.

Rachel, strangely Angel is ok with the blender … she didn’t show that she was afraid, just that when she hear the sound, she will close her eyes a little. I think you just need to show him the machine and how it works …. But maybe later when he is older enough to enderstand?

Cynthia, I guess so … :P

MommyToChumsy, Ashley to scared of men?? Why?? You mean she is ok with women but not men? Strange, hahahaha … my girl particularly love men, the darker the better *slap forehead twice*

Peiwun, I think it’s just a phase of a kid growing up right?

MumyGwen, oh … Gwen too, I thought Angel was the ‘special’ one. Ya … me too showing Angel where the sound is coming from but she just was so afraid of the sound till now, maybe I will just have to give her more time, just like how she familiarized herself with the vacuum cleaner I guess :)

Merryn, I also don’t know why like that but she is those timid type with loud voice la, kekekeke. Angel used to afraid of the vacuum too but since we need to use that almost everyday so I guess she is used to the voice by now and even help me to do the vacuuming. Maybe I just need to give her more time coz I am not doing the chopping everyday so it might takes longer time for her to get use to the noise.

Doreen, your Ryan is such a brave boy, he is not that afraid of the noise from the lion dance I think, he just don’t like the noise :) I think Angel will not be afraid of the lion dance noise, she would feel horrified by the weird looking lion I think coz so far, she never seen one yet :P

Irene, Angel is also scared of dark but sometimes, she tends to forget that she is in a total darkness :)

Serene, No lah … Angel sweats a lot in normal days especially the head part even she is in fully air-con room, don’t know why.
- hide in between my legs ah? Hahaha …. Feels nothing but cute lo :) Coz it means that she is safe even with only my legs that she is holding :P

Esmeralda, no choice leh coz hubby says the way I chop the meat is not standard in size and not ‘professional’ enough wor LoL
- No la …. Angel sweats a lot in normal days even with the air con full on (especially the head part). So you will see her with sweaty hair almost everyday but her body doesn’t sweat much wor …

Angel also like Sarah, she played until her hair all wet. Sweating ya?
Nowadays you did not tie her hair at home?

Maybe Angel has seen a lot on how you comfort her when she is scared, so she knows the technique now. So cute!

You make the roasted pork?

Esmeralda said...

Haha.. good lar.. hubby can help you in the kitchen now. :)

Oh is that so? Angel sweats a lot too? I thought Ashton is abnormal coz even as you said, the air-cond is on full, he still sweats, just the hair part too. Especially when he just started to sleep, his pillow will get so wait I thought that I spilled water on it in the first place!

agnes said...

hahaa.. chloe is different.. she doesnt afraid of all those sounds like chopping, hair dryer, vacuum cleaning, blender, mixer and so forth..

instead she will said "popo is preparing food in the kitchen for chloe to EAT!!!" whenever she heard the chopping sound frm our room upstairs. :)

2ma said...

this is so funny leh... but at least, angel did tried her best to overcome her fear! bravo angel!

Julie said...

Not new to me. Can you imagine my boy scared of loud frying noise and blender noise?

MommyAngel said...

Joanne, no leh …. Lately I didn’t tie her hair that much because I noticed that she starts loosing some hair if I tie them up so I just let it be lo :)
- yup, I made those roasted pork quite often coz hubby is totally crazy about them :)

Esmeralda, actually hubby helps a lot in terms of housework :)
- Ashton also sweats a lot?? Exactly the same as Angel. There was once I noticed that her mattress is wet until I thought her diaper is leaking so I wake her up from her sleep wanted to change her then only I realised that her pants is dry and when I feel the mattress, it starts from the pillow part down till her waist then only I knew she sweat sooooooo much! Ya …. It’s just like water was spilled on the mattress.

Agnes, Chloe is such a clever girl, she understand things quite well for her age I can see. For Angel, sometimes she seems do now understand what are we doing still even after we show and explain to her and maybe we still have communication barrier at this moment :(

2ma, thanks … I know she is trying to be brave but I think it’s ok, at least she didn’t scream like she use to now ;)

Julie, loud frying noise??? Is frying noise really that loud?? Poor Jonathan ….

Esmeralda said...

Good for you hubby helps u a lot in terms of houseworks..

Yup Ashton sweats a lot too... so imagine I have to change his sheets at least once a week...

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, ya ... me too will change Angel's sheet every week or else, it would be very smelly :P

Mummy Ryan said...
