Swollen Lip and Tongue

Angel fell down at the play ground during our outing today. Me and hubby watching her closely but still, it happened!! Sigh …!!!

Actually she was happily playing on the slides, climbing up and down the stairs and running around the play area while me and hubby chasing her all over the place. After a good 30 minutes of playing, she was sitting down at the top of the slide again ready to make her way down sliding while me and hubby standing at both beside of her ready to catch her if anything happened. But instead of sliding down, she tipped over to her side falling to the metal platform (about 1 feet lower) and landed on her shoulder and face!!! I tried to catch her but since she tipped over to hubby’s side, I can’t reached her while hubby also didn’t noticed coz his vision was block by the hand bars. It happened so fast and I alerted hubby and quickly ran over to get her ….. she was crying furiously and tiny bit of blood coming out from her mouth. After making some inspection, the blood was actually from the wound on her tongue and her upper lips on the right. Her teeth must be cutting into them while she falls.

I am thankful that it’s just a small cut apart from a red line over her face (still visible after 12 hours now) and also her lips was a bit swollen. However her mouth seems to be in great pain and once in awhile, blood still coming out from her tongue. So my poor girl refuse to eat her dinner tonight despite that she was very hungry and keep asking for food. So at the end, hubby manages to feed her some bananas in rice cereal. I think for a day or 2, she will not be having any hard food until her wound gets better. *so heart pain*

Poor Angel! Must hurt a lot ya.. But thank God that it she didn't hurt her teeth ya... Ashton was not so lucky last time (as you know)...

So how's her appetite today? Is she eating something? If painful maybe you can give her some ice-cream (ooopss... but I forgot that she can't take dairy ya).. Can you find some cold yogurt that she can take? That will ease the pain.. and she is taking something nutritious too...

Do take care ya... It's near her bday some more.... Hopefully she can recover quickly so that she can enjoy her bday ya...

Mery, thanks for your concern dear :)

Linda, What is Manuka Honey Active 15+? Where can I get it? Ya …. I will try to look out for the Daktarin Oral Gel, thanks so much Linda.

Kristie, thanks for your concern dear, I think her tongue and lips is painful so I will try to let her taking soft food for now.

JT, thanks for your concern JT, she won’t eat plain porridge so I am feeding her rice cereal for the moment being. Luckily she still wants her milk.

2ma, Ya …. Extremely sum tung but I know it’s unavoidable la for kids, but then I am glad it’s just a minor injury and didn’t broken her teeth :)

Irene, thanks for your concern, you are right, this kind of accident is unavoidable and I have to bare with this situation as long as she is still mu kid …… I am glad that it’s only minor injury this time. Thanks for your concern dear :) I do hope that she will become stronger as she grows :)

Queenie, she is getting better now, thanks dear :)

YenPing, ya …. Actually we are watching her closely but still, it happens. But sometimes it’s like that, we try to be careful but still, when accidents do happens, it will happen in a way that we can’t do anything about it, sigh!!
- oh dear, I hope Natalie is fine now ……. So how’s her ‘bungalow’?? Getting any better?

Serene, no …. I didn’t bring her to the paed yet, I will monitor her condition first coz according to the baby website, it will heal by itself within a week so at the mean time, I will try to apply some gel on her gum first and see whether she is getting any better. If not then I will bring her to the paed the very next day. Thanks for your concern ya :)

Cath, so you are very experience it cases like this already ya :P Kids ….. like Irene said, this is part of growing up so I do hope that she learn along the way and me too learning together with her. Tell you what, sometimes when Angel sitting nicely on the sofa she will also tipped over for no reason! It’s not that she is not sitting properly but sometimes she just ‘forgot’ that she is sitting ……. Sigh!! What to do?? Your Son also like that ah?? Hahahaha …..

Agnes, Ya …. I just hope that she will learn along the way and growing up to be a stronger little kid ….. and the thing is after the fall, she is not afraid and still running here and there after she don’t feel that painful anymore, sigh!!! Kids ……

Rachel, I am glad that the line disappeared sooner then I thought but now the ulcer pula …..

Merryn, She is getting better now now the ulcer ….. I don’t know how to deal with it yet. We’ll see how ….. thanks for the hug Merryn ….

Stacey, Ya …. I am trying to find a good medicine to helps the ulcer now, still monitoring her progress and I will know by tomorrow. Thanks dear.

Mummy Gwen, thanks dear …..

Esmeralda, ya …. I am glad that her teeth was fine. Ya, when I saw blood stains on her teeth, I remembered Ashton’s case so I quickly check on her teeth and glad that she is fine! Phew …..
- talking about her appetite, she is eating well coz I feed her rice cereal with bananas until hubby came back from work and offered her our fries during dinner time coz Angel was crying for them, and guess what, her tongue was bleeding again, sigh sigh sigh!! After that she rejected all solid due to pain ……. I asked hubby not to give the fries to her but you know la ….. so hopefully hubby learn his lesson and Angel is willing to take her rice cereal again tomorrow.
- actually we really try our best already and standing not even 1 feet away from her but sometimes when accident wants to happen, it will happens in a way that no one is able to avoid (or else it won’t be call accident), so we will try my best to lessen the damages from the accidents if things do happen, and hopefully she will learn from the process as well as we are learning along the way too.
- one thing I do agree with you, play ground is the place where accidents always take place (coz the kid is too excited playing and forget about everything) but then, not bringing them there is like impossible also, sigh ..... ya, we will try to be extra careful next time coz accident like this really makes me so heart pain :(

Luckily her teeth was fine! And good that she wanna take rice cereals and milk otherwise you'll be cracking your head.. *sigh* hubbies are more easy-going when it comes to crying child, so does my hubby...

Yup, accidents do happen, and what we can do is minimise the effect. Actually I've not brought Ashton to playground before, just brought him to the Kiddies' Club where it's a protected playground with padded floor and such. And I'm amazed that Angel can play the slides by herself? She can climb the stairs all by herself too? Really clever lar.. Yes do agree with you that when it comes to playing, kids will totally forgot about themselves, and their surroundings....

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, actually the playground that I brought Angel to is really special, they have padded (rubber) floor but then, she fall onto the steel wire mesh on the slides which is rubber protected too but still got hurt, sigh!!!!

Oh ya, she can play the slide by herself and climbing the stairs all by herself. Actually she starts playing with the slides when she was 1 ½ years old (in a shopping mall) where she cried and cried until we her to and since then, she falls in love with it and will be playing with slides whenever she sees one. She has also start going up and down our normal staircase all by herself now and refused us to hold her hand (but then, me and hubby will still put our hands half feet in front and behind her all the time afraid that she will slipped.) and she hates us doing that and will cry everytime she sees our hands blocking her way. She is really a daring and stubborn little girl la!! Now she even go up and down the escalator with hubby holding her hands which I think is really dangerous so I stopped hubby but when I am not looking, I will see her doing it again holding hubby’s hand. Sigh … that’s why I don’t let her wear her crocs when going out, too dangerous for escalator :(

Esmeralda said...

Oh!!! She started playing slides at such a young age! I've tried to let Ashton play on a slide even at the clinic's mini slide, but he just won't play with it. Still scared oh...

Angel is such a daring child, she's not afraid of falling ya? But I think she can get hold of the climbing up/down the stairs' skills real fast ya?

Oh.. about the escalators.. Ashton loves the escalators. Everytime I carried him, whenever we reach the escalators, he quickly wriggled himself away from me, and wanted me to put him standing on the escalators - of coz with me holding his hand. I never buy CROCS for him. CROCS just are too dangerous..

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, ya … she is such a brave girl when it comes to her favourite toy, slides …. Really unstoppable actually so no choice lo, have to let her play. Hubby even thinking of buying one for her at home but ….. walau, don’t want our house packed with that la unless she has her own playroom la, right? Maybe that’s why she manage to learn walking up and down the stairs pretty fast coz ‘training’ by the slide :)

Hahahaha ….. Ashton also love escalators ya. If I were to carry her on the escalator, she will bend her body 90 degree down holding the hander of the escalator, quite dangerous sometimes out of the sudden she does that and I nearly went out of balance. She just love escalator so much la so we will try to take the lift most of the time because of our naughty girl here or else, you will be hearing her crying sound all the way from the top of the escalator till we get off it.

BTW, will Ashton cry and cry just want to get what he wants / the way he wants?

Esmeralda said...

Aiyor... since she loves the slides so much, better not buy lar unless u can make sure u can sit there n guard her playing!

Ashton loves escalators.. and I've also been frightened by him few times on the escalators coz he suddenly wriggle himself away fromme to stand on the escalators. Luckily I didn't go off-balance coz I'm wearing gigh-heels some more! So now everytime when we get on the escalators, I will automatically put him down, and hold his hands. Actually I think that it's fine as long as you can hold Angel properly...

Well... thank God Ashton when I brought him outside he will not make a fuss if his desires are not fulfilled, BUT AT HOME - guling guling on the floor like a spinwheel if he's mood not good... *sigh* Angel make a fuss quite often?

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, hahahaha … guard her when she is playing the slide is not a problem (I have been doing that all these while), but I don’t know how to refrain her not to play with them when I need to cook coz I don’t have a gate to lock the huge slide out, nor I can ‘keep’ them away, hahahahahaha ……

Oh … I am so envy that you are wearing high heels now, I can’t wear them now and have not been wearing any heels since Angel was born, sob sob!! But luckily you still able to keep your balance hor …. So dangerous!! But have you seen the sign on the escalators that forbidden us parents to put our young kids standing even with us holding onto their hands? I did saw signs like that in all escalators, do you have any idea as to why???? I am just curious la …… and that’s why I try to carry her just following the instructions but like you’ve said, it’s more dangerous when we have an active kid who is constantly wriggle about and who we try very hard to balance them in our arms on a ever moving escalator, tough and dangerous task actually!! Is that because they were afraid that the kid’s tiny toe will get stuck in between those gaps of the escalator or something like that??? Hhhhmmmm ……?????

Talking about Angel, yes, she make a fuss all the time, for example if we were in the mall for 2 hours, there will be at least 1 hour she is crying, no joke Esmeralda. So whenever you saw a baby crying and fussing out loud in the mall, yop, that’s most probably my darling Angel there. For example, we brought her to zoo few days ago, she is crying from day till the time we go home. I think I can write a post for that too. She has been like that since birth, crying and crying non stop until now. So whenever we go to the market doing our groceries and she is not crying, you will hear the cashier there (know us already) start saying, “Oh … today good girl not crying ah?” @_@ yes …. That’s the compliments which we usually gets when she behaves which is like once in a blue moon. No joke at all here.

Esmeralda said...

Yup, I see your problem with "hiding" the slides if you have one at home.

Talking about the sign at the escalators, I also have no idea why they put it there if the child is accompanied by an adult holding his/her hand ya! Will their toes get stuck? Usually when Ashton is out shopping with me, I'll make sure he is wearing close-toe shoes, not sandals - just in case. Yes, it's more dangerous if our kids are wriggling like a snake and we are trying to prevent them from going down. *sigh* Most of the times I will just ignore the sign.

Angel cried for an hour? Why? She's tired or she wants something?
Poor you... but you just have to bring her out for groceries ya? Maybe she just prefers playing at home? I can imagine if Ashton were to cry an hour like that, most likely I won't be bringing him out so much lor..

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, the reason Angel cried is mostly because
1) She wants to walk and run freely (without us holding hands)
2) She saw something which interested her (i.e. the TV display at the window) refuse to go
3) She wants to go up and down the escalator
4) She wants to remain in 1 place (i.e. toy department) and refuse to leave
5) Wants me to carry her all the time instead of hubby / don’t want to sit in stroller / don’t want to walk
6) Wants to follow other kid and don’t want to tag along
7) Wants to hold our money

Yes, I have to bring her along wherever we go coz no one helps to look after her at home. No …. She likes to go kai kai and will cry very loud if we don’t bring her. We didn’t go out much, maybe during weekends only. Ya …. I think if I have someone to look after her, I think she will definitely become a stay at home kid coz she is just too hard to control when she was out but I must say that she is lucky that no one is willing to look after her even for 10 minutes. Unless I am in Sabah la and my mom could help out. I tried to place her in MIL’s place and SIL place and normally I will get phone call within 30 minutes time asking ME to go back coz they said they can’t manage, sigh! We have tried 2 times already so it’s basically a waste of time to travel back and fore to PIL place and end up Angel still tagging along with us.

Esmeralda said...

Wow... looks like Angel is easily attracted by lots of things when you all were out! Ashton on the other hand is quite afraid of the crowd. If he saw more ppl in a certain area/spot, he will quickly grab one of my legs, and asked me to carry him. Sometimes I didn't carry him, end up I also can't walk coz he's gripping my leg so hard lei..

Wanna hold your money? I tot your money is in the wallet? Hehe... Ashton loves to play with my cards in the wallet especially, so need to hide it from him else he will enjoy himself with the cards messing everything up (and sometimes misplacing them too).

Last time Ashton was like that too. When we left him at my mum's, I"LL receive call from my mum within few mins time but we brought him there quite often to familiarise him there so now ok a bit lor.. Poor you... nobody can look after Angel for you... what happens if u were sick (TOUCH WOOD!!) & hb is working? I dread the moment when I'm sick and no one can take care of Ashton. Usually when I'm sick, Ashton seems to know it, and won't let anyone take care of him eventhough my mum. On & off he will look for me - sometimes need to lock the door and hide lei!

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, hahahaha …. So funny of Ashton lar but when talking about waking / running with eyes watching behind, I think no one will be ‘terror’ then our little Angel. She will knock into everything everyday when she was out, dusbin la, flower pot la, doors la (numerous time), my computer la, the table corners la, the walls la, so my eyes is basically with her all the time if she starts to walk outside. Hahaha … ‘syiok sendiri’ kekekekeke ….. so funny la you Esmeralda :P

Kekekeke …. I guess Ashton must be too excited to see daddy and can’t wait to go near daddy so if the feet don’t ‘works’ anymore, use the rolling la, crawling la, like hakka use to say, pa-tu-pa-dao-hi (crawl also will crawl till he reaches), hahahaha ….. Ashton Ashton, really is so funny la. During that time he must have not mastered how he walks yet right?

Angel loves her bath time too but she still wants me to chase her before her bath coz she knows I will coz I really can’t wait for her to lambat lambat where I got so many things to do still :) Ya, same here if I told her to get ready to bath but I am not ready yet, she will cry and cry pulling me till I go to the bath room then, whooossss …. She run away again wanting me to catch her and bring her to the bath room pula *slap forehead* Luckily when Ashton loves it and he really mean it and not like my Angel, loves it but pretend don’t want and I think somehow kids will do that hor when they gets older ……

Ya ….. about the rotan I actually did heard my mom said it’s already been broken but still, she wants to pass it to me coz she she has been keeping in her storeroom for years already :) Wooden spoon?? Kakakakaka ….. that’s surely is painful, hahahaha …. I never use wooden spoon but when I can’t find my rotan, I will use my comb to hit the table but don’t let angel saw it coz it does makes sound as if it was the rotan. But our girl really 38 one, she will always peep to see whether it’s the rotan that making that sound, hahahaha ….. yah or, I really need to find a rubberband la but that doesn’t scare her as much as the rotan hitting the table sound wor :(
