Random Daily Meals

I haven’t been cooking any new menus for Angel for the past week as the battery of my brain is running low after ‘The Battle’ :P Now that she is slowly back to her healthy eating habit, so I was thinking not to overwhelm her with any new food / stronger flavoured food for a week or two until she settle with those she normally eat and also those she used to love, then only gradually progressing back to those stronger flavoured food. It’s a good chance for me to evaluate and find out any changes in her ‘preference’ too. I must say that it’s a good start for me and a good start for my Angel as well. Below are some random meals the ‘mild taste categories’ which she is having without much hustle.

^ ^ RED PORRIDGE: Porridge with Beetroot, Apple, Cauliflower, Chicken Breast Meat in Homemade Chicken Soup Base.

^ ^ CORN SOUP MEE HOON: Mee Hoon with sweet corn and Pork rib. Although the meal looks plain but surprisingly she loves this one a lot.

^ ^ (Left) Bitter Gourd (苦瓜)Soup with Alphabet Pasta.
(Right) Carrot + Shredded Pork with Vege Animal Pasta.

^ ^ VEGE PORRIDGE: Porridge with Corn, Onions, Broccoli, Carrots (not in the pix), Mince Meat in Homemade Pork Bone Soup Base.

^ ^ VEGE PORRIDGE: Porridge with Ridged Luffa / Gourd (丝瓜), Corn, Chinese Wolfberry and Mince Pork Meat.

As she will be marching into her 2nd birthday real soon which means her body is getting more prepared for choices of food in terms of texture as well as taste and flavour, I am also scratching my head and busy looking for more recipes and menu which is suitable for a young toddler. Any yummy recipe for your toddler(s), mind to share?

i'm sorry to say ethan wont eat any of the above! the sight of porridge or mee hoon soup scares the heck out of him.. he has my genes.. i'm all into curry laksa and sambal type! hahahaha..

anyways, it's good angel is taking all those nutritious food and not having too strong flavor (her sense of taste wont be poluted so soon!)

but i dun really have any good recipes for toddlers.. i'm such a lazy mom.. doesnt experiment with food much! :)

Caroline, I also need more idea about toddler food.
Normally what I do is, if I have determine an ingredient to be used in the menu, then next I will google search and see whether I can get anything from there.

Your recipes are so creative. Can see that you put alot of effort there by cooking those delicious and nutricious food for Angel. Angel is almost 2 years old already, you can cook adult dishes for her already with less seasonings.

Wow... Those are really colourful and quality toddler food! :)

Oh.. does she eat the corn in her meal? I've tried letting Ashton eat some corns but he just spit them out.

Wow... She can take bitter gourd soup? Is the bitter gourd soup bitter or just very mild? If she can take real bitter soup - bravo! I haven't started bitter gourd on Ashton yet....

Your photo on the 4th level, the one with some chopped veges... I saw that they are neatly wrapped in plastic? You prepared them the day before?

So many creative menu for little Angel, does u served it for her breakfast/lunch or dinner?

For me,
*morning I will serve either porridge(different kind of porridge),fried/soup kuetiau, mee suah,soup/dry wantan mee (ownself made),fried/soup beehoon.
*afternoon : can be either porridge or rice with anykind of vege + soup
*dinner : most of the time is rice with soup + vege.

I can say Ryan can eat most of the food served in the table ,of course, not spicy food.

Merryn, that makes me wonder, what does Ethan’s meal like now coz he don’t eat porridge and won’t eat mee hoon, mind to share? But it’s good that he don’t like porridge and don’t mind to chewy though, as my girl, she just being too lazy to chew so porridge will be her main dish for now and rice will be like 2 times per week.
- Wow … he could take curry and laksa? Hahahaha … that’s good, I guess genes do play an important role in that area coz I noticed that Angel does show the preference on food which both me and hubby likes :)

Joanne, thanks for sharing … I think your way of searching for new ideas are brilliant!! Will you normally gets more western food of you Google it?

Cath, thanks *muaks muaks muaks* :P

Stacey, thanks Stacey for your kind words :)

Yugene, when it comes to a picky eater, really have to be brave or else, no idea what to cook leh. Wah ….. so nice ah, holiday in Melaka?? Relax more then coz have your mom helping with Kyle, put your feet up and play Queen for a week!! It’s good to be back home right??? I want to go back too :)

Mummy Gwen, Ya … I have been thinking to let Angel taken our adults dish too for a long time but I don’t think Angel will cope well with that coz
1) hubby is eating quite spicy most of the time
2) once I cook food with healthier or lesser seasoning, hubby will eat less :(
3) He is a carnivore …. I am afraid that Angel will be like him too …..
4) Most of our dish are fried most of the time but Angel loves steam more ….
5) The main reason is, She is still allergy to most of the food like prawns, fish, seafood, peanuts, butter, cheese, almond, etc and sometimes these can’t be avoid in our cooking
6) She won’t eat the food if she sense garlic / onions LoL (will work that out later :P)
So after considering all that, we will let Angel eat her porridge / rice most of the time then when I really cook something without all the seafood, etc then she will join in. If we boiled soup, Angel will drink with us :) Oh …. Can’t wait for her to outgrow her allergies!!!

Anggie, Ya …. Bitter Gourd with Alphabet Pasta, hahaha …. How come a lot of ppl asking me this ah? Hahahahaha. Ya …. She will take it surprisingly but I think it’s good to ‘cool down’ the body heat leh ;) I didn’t think a lot about this previously coz most of my nephews are eating this since young so I though kids love bitter gourd too? But then now I know kids either will love it or hate it la but like my nephew, but I hope by exposing bitter gourd to her since young, she will eat them just like all her cousin brother and sister. By the way, there are ways to make the bitter gourd less bitter by immerse them into salt water for a period before cooking.

Agnes, I think that your mom is a good cook and also have a lot of ‘ideas’ when comes to handle your Chloe, doesn’t she? Oh … how I hope my mom was here too but then ….. I don’t think she can manage my Angel as she don’t really take care of us last time, my granny did :P Fish balls ah? I think kids loves fish ball but unfortunately Angel is allergy to fish.. But ya … fish ball normally have the pang-sar inside just like tofu but as long as don’t over feed them with fish ball, why not?

Rachel, No need to feel bad as you have a good helper at home. I choose to be the MAID at home so no choice, I have to do all these :P

Doreen, you have a good MIL to ‘kau-tim’ all this la so no problem!! :) Like what I told Rachel la, I choose to be the MAID at home so no choice, I have to do all the cookings :P

Esmeralda, Yes … I did try corn on her and she would take it last time but this time she also would spit them out, maybe it’s the outer layer of the corn. And I found that kid’s tummy will not digest corn as well so I try not minimized the corn which I feed to her now. Baby corn is ok but not corn nibbles. And like what my reply to Anggie,
“ Ya …. By the way, there are ways to make the bitter gourd less bitter by immerse them into salt water for a period before cooking.”

Mery, I only serve this for Angel during her lunch and dinner. Normally her breakfast will be her formula milk. But then in between lunch and dinner (she had her lunch quite early), she would have a tea break instead which is not porridge, noodle nor rice, will be either bread, biscuits, homemade cakes, etc with yogurt and fruits, etc.
- I like your menu for Ryan, and he is actually eating like us adults already which is good! I will slowly letting Angel have more rice and adult food too but I find that it’s quite difficult for her to chew with all the front teeth only, she doesn’t have much teeth yet :)

yes, I also noticed that sometimes the results of the google search is more to the western food, so if I think it is not suits for Sarah, then I will use the "pages from M'sia" to google search again.
