A Tea Time Menu

Angel is having some hard stool few weeks back so this is what I prepared for her tea break in order to loosen her poo poo and helps her bowel movements. It’s Bread with Prune Puree + Goat Milk Yogurt with Grape Puree (sometimes I do it plain if not enough time to puree the fruits) + Papaya + Apple Juice. I think all the above are good in helping to regulate her bowel movements and the end results? Surprisingly there were no more hard stool for Angel the very next day and she was able to pass motion regularly as well *phew* So whenever I noticed that she is having hard stools again, that’s one of the healthy tea time menu which I would normally prepared for her and it really does helps a lot in her bowel movements from my observations. I am glad that she loves this menu very much too but I try to avoid giving it to her everyday as prune puree sometimes can be a little bit too sweet for young kids :)

Mommy always creative in making nice and special menu for Angel. She is so lucky...

At the first glance, I was wondering what is the food that in white in colour. Now I know is a goat milk yogurt. I wonder how is it taste like? I did not know that it is available in supermarket. I think the price must be slightly higher.

The bread cutter is so cute..No wonder Angel likes it a lot.

The grape puree was it make by you too? Same steps as how you prepare the prune puree? Will it taste sour?

So Angel able to finish her meal?

I thought the yogurt was 'chee cheong fun' haha..The bread's shapes are so cute. Did Angel enjoys her bread? Your first bento huh..not bad. :)

Nice foods for teatime...how u make goat milk yogurt? how it taste?

MommyAngel said...

Kristie, I make those prunes puree from Sunsweet Prunes and add with water then blend. – the yellow drink is apple juice, I dilute 2 oz of those ready made apple juice (not from concentrate though) with 7 oz of water. It looks very pale in colour but somehow it looks so yellow in the picture :)
- oh … so how’s Jayden’s constipation problem now? Those rice cereal will also caused constipation problem wor ….. so are you feeding him cereal often? All the best ya :)

JT, oh … the goat milk yogurt have such strong smell but that’s the only yogurt she can take coz she is allergy to cow’s milk. Yup, the goat milk coz doubled in price.
- yup, the grape puree I make the same steps as my prunes. Most of the time I use fresh grapes and it taste nice :)
- yes …. Angel does finished her meal but in an hour’s time :( Maybe it’s time to de-worm her already??

Mummy Gwen, Hahaha …. I don’t consider that as a bento yet coz bento suppose to be in a ‘box’ :P :P Oh … bought too much bento gadgets at the moment so trying to experiment them a bit but ….. I guess it’s not that fun at all leh, how ah????

YenPing, the apple juice is a Australia brand - Harve*y Fres*h fresh crush apple juice. I got it from Cold Storage. So serve the web I give you for the bento accessories ya :)

Rachel, oh … is the portion huge??? I think kids need more nutrition for them to grow healthily before they are thinking of diet when they grow into their teens leh, hehehehe …

Jess, oh …. Dragon fruits ah? Thanks for the tip. I shall try that too :)

Agnes, Poo Poo meal ah, hahahaha ….. sounds so ‘unappetizing’ but funny lar, kekekeke ….. oh, I didn’t know that pumpkin porridge will help in bowel movements. I shall try that. Thanks a lot!!
-Angel’s milk is goat milk formula and that’s why it’s very heaty but that’s the only brand she could take (allergy to diaries) so no choice. I heard of Vitagen, etc might helps too but the thing is she is allergic to cow milk (that’s why I use goat milk yogurt) …. that’s why I am more headache in this area coz most good stuffs are not always diary free leh ….…… thanks for your advice Agnes, I can’t wait for her to outgrow her lactose intolerance :)

PeiWun, thanks :)

Merryn, hahahaha …. Hardwork for mommy leh. She is the princess and I am her servant!!

Doreen, hahahhaa …… your Ryan is surely very playful la. But at least he will tell you wet-wet leh ….. if Angel, she will surely kicking happily with those water on the floor until I shout at her @_@

Judy, oh …. I didn’t make those goat milk yogurt, I bought it :) The taste ah ….. very very smelly, very strong milk taste, I don’t think you will like it :)

Stacey Lim said...

Hi, 1st time here! I love the meal you prepared for Angel, so cute!! Especially the bread! She must have love it alot!

Mummy Gwen said...

Caroline, You bought alot of bento gadgets already??? Now might be too early for Angel to appreciate bentos..hehe..later when you make cute cute bentos sure she wallop habis. Slowly experiment with yr bento lah, sure will come up with nice bentos in future. :)

Oh..Angel not eating ah lately. Besides cucumber, Gwen also likes cherry tomatoes, broccoli, french beans, carrots. She prefers eating with hands wor so she will attack all those crunchy veggies first. Gwen also very picky over food lah. She will eat lah but like kena forced to eat..hahaha

Joanne said...

wow, so yummy.. the bread is so cute, how about the rest after u cut the shape, who finish it ?

Esmeralda said...

Can Angel finish such a big portion? I mean if add in the bottle of apple juice and the yogurt.. my my.. that's a lot... Haha... How many hours can this meal last before the next meal? Great menu for me to try next time... hehehe...thanks...

Angel can drink the juice from the bottle? That's good. I've made some fresh apple juice (diluted of coz) for Ashton but he doesn't wanna drink when I pour them in his water bottle. He wants to be fed from the cup and his spoon! *sigh*

MommyAngel said...

Stacey, thanks for visiting and I have link up your blog ya :)

Mummy Gwen, oh ya …. I think I have 3 huge plastic bags of bento accessories already and tell me that’s not a lot! I didn’t realized that at first until all the stocks all come in la and that’s not including the bento box yet oh, I also headache now thinking where to put them :(
- nope, she is not eating well lately :( :( :( Gwen sure eats a lot hor ….. all those vege that she used to eat, now she is making ‘the vomit gesture’ when she eat them including carrots, vege, broccoli, tomatoes, sweet corn …. you name it. Sigh!! The only thing she will eat for lunch and dinner willingly is MEAT!!!! I tried to talk nicely to her / force her but only end up with a crying and screaming toddler at home. SIGH!!! Why is this happening to me???

Esmeralda, the portion is not big actually coz the bread is very small size, maybe look big in the picture hor … and the yogurt is only 3-4 teaspoons only la LoL But the apple juice is a bit too much hor. Ya, she can finished it and she insist to finish it after her meal wor …. She got huge tummy when it comes to apple juice and her milk. Errmm .. that can last her for 3 - 4 hours I think.
- Oh …. She loves to drink her juice from the bottle actually. I will start her with the straw real soon. One thing is that if I were to feed her using the cup, she will want to do it herself, she refuse us to feed her now so to avoid the mess, I let her drink in the bottle lo.

Serene said...

Wow.. Caroline, you're such a creative + hardworking mummy! The tea time set looks so nice and yummy! Look at Angel's photo, I'm sure she enjoy her meal a lot!

I like this menu. Going into Bento?

Esmeralda said...

HAha.. maybe in the pic the bread & yogurt looks so much, like an adult portion lar.. that's why I was shocked... Angel don wan u to feed her aldry? Ashton also starting to be like that. Alwaya wanna get hold of the spoon... but kept messing up.

MommyAngel said...

Serene, hahahahaha …. Thank you lar :)

Julie, yup …. Am crazy about bento accessories at the moment but yet to start any real bento project yet :)

Emseralda, oh ….. Angel is totally self feed since last December when she was 1Y8M (http://mommydaddyangel.blogspot.com/2008/12/1y8m-self-feeding.html). Even we eat out also we eat ours and she eat hers using our adults spoons, hahahaha. Now she can drink soup all by herself too but sometimes in the afternoon, I have so much things to do so I avoid her making mess lo.

Esmeralda said...

Oh ya,. i remembered reading bout it in ur blog. Good girl... Mayb i'm too protective till wanna feed him coz dun wan him to mess up the house! :(

Irene said...

look soooo nice! hehe :) well done mommy!

Sarah's Daddy and Mommy said...

At least Angel could get the vitamins and calcium from the goat milk yogurt, so if little pricey also never mind lor..:-)

So normally the fresh grapes will you peel off the skin before puree it? I wonder do you need to add any sugar into it as some grapes will taste sour.

Is Angel only takes longer time to finish this meal or every meal?

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, you are not protective …. If I were you, I will do the same too but my Angel has her own ‘thinking’ la, actually mention about this, I do think that she is very particular about everything since very small leh like how she want this to be done and that to be done, etc … I also pengsan!!! Like today, she insisted that I must carry my handbag and cried and scream so loud when she saw hubby help me with it until at last, no choice, I have to carry it myself @_@

Irene, thanks ….

JT, ya …. You are right there, as long as there is yogurt that Angel could take, even asked me to make it my own I am also willing ;)
- Oh … I didn’t peel the skin off because that’s the most nutritious part of the grapes, isn’t it? But I scrub the skin clean using a dish sponge especially for that purpose. Oh, no sugar at all So the grapes I choose normally will be sweet one, those not sweet one normally I eat myself if she rejects.
- she not just take longer time to finished her EVERY meal, but she would just eat few spoon then refused to eat anymore EVERYTIME!! I also don’t know what’s wrong with her, even carrots, corn, vege, sometimes even mince meat also she think they taste bad and totally reject!!! She even don’t want to eat her cakes. But junk food and baby biscuit she is number 1 leh …… even baby biscuits also she want certain brand only. Tell me that’s not a picky eater??? I am really so stressed up at the moment :(

Esmeralda said...

Kids nowadays are not like during our time. Haha... Same here.. everytime we wanna go out, Ashton sure go to our room and carry my handbag (I mean he pull my poor handbag on the floor) and ask me to bring it along. Even if sometimes nite time I'm lazy to bring my handbag, he also did the same thing. *lol* And not forgetting, house keys as well. He will hold them in his hands until we go out the door, then pass to me/hubby!

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, hahahaha .... Ashton also ah? Really don't know what are they thinking hor .... but they are very observant if compare to our time where we were blur blur most of the time leh and only eat, play and watch tv only :) What if you didn’t bring your handbag or not letting him hold the house key? Will he make a fuss? Angel also will be in charge of our house key most of the time and insisted that she will be ‘the only one’ to put the key into the key hole …. Or else she will cry till the neighbour comes out oh. But she could really hold the key right and pointed right onto the key hole most of the time leh …. But at this moment, she is not tall enough to fully insert the key yet, phew!!

Esmeralda said...

Wow... Angel is a big girl oredi. Can insert the key into the key slot liao? Good girl (but bad news for you Caroline). YOu need to be a lot more aware of Angel now.. :)

If I don't give Ashton the handbag, it's still OK, but the house keys (or car keys)must be returned to him once the door has been locked. As for the car keys, he will only pass you the keys once we reach the car. Automatic he'll pass to us.

Yup, last time we were like blur blur, like "the frog under the coconut shell"...*lol* Ppl gv us food, we just eat. Now, if ppl gv Ashton food, he look at that person first, then go away... Haha... was that street smart or what?

Kristie said...

caroline, i wonder if i can also use those ready made sunsweet prunes and puree for jayden at this age?

Isn't it very sweet for babies?

His bowels still not back to normal yet... today is the 2nd day no poo poo... nope i havent been giving him cereals because of his phlegm problem!

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, hahaha …. But I think your Ashton is taller then Angel, he manage to touched the door knob already, right? Angel as well :)
- hahahaha …. I think the keys are Ashton’s property already la. Don’t you afraid that the key will drop into the lift pit if he were to hold those keys until you reach the car? Angel does that all the time too, once we get down from the car, she will be in charged of the hse keys then slot it into the key hole. If she forgot and you do it for her, walauuu … cry so loud until you took the key out and let her slot it in :(
- Ashton will not eat food given by strangers ah? That’s good leh …. He is so smart la, you teach him that?????? Angel will accept food from strangers leh if that’s the food that she likes …. Cham or not???

Kristie, I am not sure about those Sunweet prunes for Jayden coz he is still so young and start solid for barely 1 month + right? Ya …. I think it’s a bit sweet for young babies. But if you were really thinking to give prunes to Jeyden, why not try the Garber brand Baby Prune Puree? It’s a baby food in a jar meant for babies above 6 months old … I used to give that to Angel too when she was much younger. I normally got that from either Cold Storage / Giant USJ but this items is selling fast, don't know whether still have stock now wor coz I stop feeding Angel with that. You just have to keep looking for it. Good luck ya.

Esmeralda said...

Yup, those keys usually are his properties, but if he got something to hold to (eg plastic bag filled with something, or even small containers) he can forget about the keys. What he needs is to hold something when he go out, sometimes I do laugh at him, as if he wanna go buy veg in the market. I'm also worried that the keys will drop into the lift slit, so usually when the lift opens, I will hold the keys together with him (look so akward lar), until he is safely out of the lift/into the lift.

He is very shy with strangers, so he will always (and he likes doing that now) crab one of my legs, and hide behind. Eventhough there's his fav food, no way, unless I took the food, and gv to him. This kid is not so friendly lar... so scared of ppl.

Esmeralda said...

Oh ya.. forgot to answer you. Ashton is about 88cm tall. And yes he can reach the door knob, and twist and turn as if wanna open. Just that still not tall enuf to do that yet *relieved*. But he loves to lock the doors, play with the locks. He loves to press the locks. So all my keys are outside the living room ready to be used anytime...!

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, wow .... Ashton is really tall!!! I think he will grow up into a tall and handsome guy just like his dad :)

Oh ... I think he is not used to strangers lah. Angel is ok with strangers and will not afraid of anyone if they comes near and will loves everyone if the person give her some food that she likes @_@ Dangerous!!! But she did it once like Ashton, grab one of hubby's leg and hide behind him and tell hubby "no no, Pah Pah (scary)" because she saw a Westernes with blond hair blue eyes :P

Kristie said...

caroline, thanks for ur suggestions. If possible, I would like to make my own prune puree, then can make and stock up mah :) those jars can only use for once or twice then finish... quite expensive that way.

anyway i've read somewhere taht prunes are made from plums?

MommyAngel said...

Kristie, you are right ….. prunes are make from plum and mostly from Sugar Plum but I don’t know how it looks like la :) So I guess you can feed Jayden with plums too because baby can eat plums from as young as 6 months old and no allergy risk to them too :) Good luck ya !!

Esmeralda said...

Thanks for the compliment on Ashton Caroline. You're so kind in your words! ;)

Yup it is dangerous with Angel getting 'friendly' with whoever that gives her food, esp in a big city like KL - you have to be extra alert with her now. No more letting go of your hands ya!

So is Angel still with her "pa-pa" attitude now? So cute she can distinguish Westerners and locals now ya...

As for Ashton, what skin colour, male/female also hide behind my back & grab my legs. Maybe he's not used to lots of ppl!

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, thanks for your advice, yes .... I will keep an close eyes on her from now on especially after the missing in Jusco accident :) I think Angel didn't know that the buy is a foreigner, I think she was wondering how come the man's hair is blond in colour and how come the eyes is not black but Blue in colour, kekekeke .....

Esmeralda said...

Haha.. then u must show her Barbie's partner, KEN!!! Blue eyes right? Hehehehe...

MommyAngel said...

kekekeke .... but KEN doesn't look intimidating at all leh :)

Esmeralda said...

Haha.... does the westerner looks intimidating tat time?

MommyAngel said...

I think so coz his size is just like the santa clause and his arms are full of hairs and his face is so red after having the sun tan, hahahaha ....

Esmeralda said...

Oh.. in that case... no wonder she's afraid lar..

Sarah's Daddy and Mommy said...

Ai yak, I did not know that the grape skin is the most nutrition part. I always peel it when I feed Sarah.
- OK, you did not add sugar in the grape puree. How about water? Sorry for asking so many question, because I thought to make a grape puree for Sarah one day.
- Poor you, I am sure you are cracking your head on how to improve Angel's appetite. Hope that you could find the solution.

MommyAngel said...

JT, no need to add water in fresh grapes because it has a lot of grape juice in it.

Oh ya ... I have been really sad and feeling frustrated at times but I know I just need to do something about that .... it has been a long 1 month + battling with my pick eater at home. I think it's time for me to season her food. Last resolution.

Esmeralda said...

Caroline, I hope I'm not interrupting your conversation with JT. I can't help noticing that you said your last resort would be seasoning...

Well, I don't know whether you believe or not, but my grandma told me kids after one year old should have some salt in his/her daily meals (just a little bit) to ease the stomach. I got the chance to ask a gastro-xxxxx doctor regarding this and yes he said that it's true.. sodium (salt) will ease and help the child's bowel movement and maintains the intestinal health of the child... so after Ashton reached 1 yr ++, I started to season his meals with some tiny bit of salt, and amazingly, I don't have any complaints regarding his bowel movements (touch wood...)...

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, oh no ...... I am more then happy that you share the ‘mothering experience’ and info with me here. We are all first timer so sometimes really a lot to learn :)

I believe what your grandma said it’s true, after 1 year old kids should have a low intake of salt in their meals (Kids age 1-3 intake should not more then 2g of salt / 0.8g of sodium per day), anything more than that may burden their kidney. That target is easily being achieved from her formula milk, cereal, baby biscuits, snacks, ham, sausages (if any), French fries (OMG but yes :P) and other food which contained sodium and that’s why after talking to her paed, she suggested that it’s not necessary to add in any extra salt into Angel’s meal unless she is not snacking. So I am not too worried about low sodium intake for her ..... but since now that she has becoming very picky in term of her meals, I have thought of adding salt but I just hope to look for a better and healthier options of sodium other then the refine salt which we normally use? Is sea salt any better??? Hahaha ..... I really have no idea about salt!!

Now that I read about your comments and I am actually more then glad to know that salt in fact DOES some good to our body and health as well ya? I am also more relief now ..... Thanks for sharing with me here Esmeralda.

Esmeralda said...

What are you doing at 2.46 in the morning Caroline? Don't you have to wake up early tomoro? (Haha.. as if I slp that early also!)

Glad that my comments are of any help. :) Oh.. since Angel snacks quite a bit, maybe you can alternate the addition of salt in her meals (I mean skip a day - just my opinion).

Ashton on the other hand don't snack that much, unless we really go out shopping, etc... So everyday his meals will contain little bit of salt... Come to think of it, what a bad mummy am I - did not let him snack and did not prepare some special snacks for him!

How's Angel's eating pattern now? Ashton's would be morning milk around 9am, lunch at 11.30am, then slp for an hour or so, thereafter another meal at 4.30pm, then dinner at 7.30pm followed by another round of milk at 10pm. So in btwn I seldom give him snacks/tea time as he would be asleep that time... *sigh*

I think normal refined salt would be fine since the amount that they take is so little. Of coz if you can use sea salt is better, but I'm just using the normal refined salt at home... :)

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, hahahaha …… I have becoming an owl basically coz that’s the only time where I can have some ‘my time’ :)

Ya, I think a little bit of salt won’t hurt so I will add a bit into her meal as necessary :)

I think to snack or not to snack really mommy knows the best la :) I only started Angel on that few months back coz she seems like missing out a lot on other stuffs already so I tried to make up to her by letting her taking some snacks but choose some healthy options lo. I thought Ashton also will have his Heinz baby biscuits once in awhile? Angel will mostly snacks during weekends or when we ta-pao coz me and hubby likes to eat fast food so fries is the only thing that’s diary free so you will see me/ hubby trying to wipe off those extra salt from the fries most of the time, hahahaha ….

Angel’s eating pattern is first round of milk around 8am / 7am when she wakes up, then 10.30am early lunch, 1pm milk then afternoon nap, 4pm tea time, 7pm dinner, 8.30pm sometimes have some fruits/ yogurt, 10.30pm milk and sleep. Oh …. Ashton lunch time and meal time at 4.30pm is 5 hour apart leh, can his lunch last him that long? For Angel she will feel hungry very fast when she is eating solid, don’t know why.

So basically Ashton is having 3 solid per day right? You feed him the proper meal for his 4.30pm? For Angel she is only having 2 solid (porridge) and 1 tea time. Her tea time is normally bread and if she wakes up late and the time is close to dinner time then I will give her a very small amount of light snacks such as Heinz baby biscuits, Steam Banana Cake or some homemade cakes, etc. Do you think she eat too much?

Esmeralda said...

Oh... I wished that Ashton can take more meals... you see, he wakes up quite late, thus missing one meal already... I'm giving him 3 solids per day (usually porridge/mee-suah/pasta) & 2 times milk. Today I jst started him on rice with stir fried chicken breast. It is really a hard time trying to feed him rice as he tends to spit out the rice when I put into his mouth. Imagine that a meal can last till 45 mins - hv to feed him tiny bits else he will spit them out again! *sigh* What do u think is the prob? I've cooked the rice with extra water to soften it... Is it bcoz he is not used to eating rice? Last nite when we were dining outside having 'la-mien', he kept on asking for more.

I think now he has got the 'picky-eater-bug' already...

Now as he starts to drink more milk in the morning (*fingers crossed*) I seldom give him Heinz biscuits at home. Only when we were out then I bring along the biscuits for him to have a few bites.

About the lunch time & 4.30pm feeding, he's fine with that coz usually that's the time he plays & naps, and immediately after waking up, I'll feed him already.

I don't think that you are feeding Angel too much. Maybe her feeding portion is lesser? I think Ashton's meal portion is quite a lot coz a bowl of his porridge is not the small bowl, it's the big bowl that we put the soup in... !

What time usually Angel wakes up from her nap? I'm thinking of giving Ashton some tea menu, but by the time he wakes up, it's about 4.30pm or 5pm, so I have to give him his main meal then as he only drinks milk twice a day. Sometimes I'm really at lost when it comes to his feedings... (*sigh*)

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, I found out one thing from other mommies though .... Kids love rice but must be in soup!!! I am having a hard time feeding Angel with rice too after she has become this ‘Picky Monsters’ .... opppss, ‘Picky Eater’ I mean, but one mommy told me don’t feed the rice dry (coz kids having hard time to swallow them even it’s cooked more soften like I normally did too but they tends to get stuck on their throat even more) so I serve the with soup, she really could take more. Maybe you wanted to try too?

Hahaha ........ Angel could also eat more when dinning outside even with the same food as those cook at home too, don’t know why, maybe it’s more ‘flavoured’ I think .......... :P :P

Oh, I am glad that Ashton is drinking more milk now. That’s a relief to you!!! So how many oz does he drinks now?

Wow ......... Ashton can really eat a lot of porridge!!! 1 big bowl ah? Angel used to be like that too and keep asking for more, I would only control her appetite with 1 ½ bowl small bowl of porridge last time but now, her appetite really drops until not even ½ bowl. I have tried the salt and it seems like doesn’t help much too :( Maybe I should go for the organic soy sauce + low natural sodium one (healthy choice options) which I just found out from the net, I read that it’s pretty good but 1 small bottle RM20!!!!

Angel’s napping time is really unfixed one. Sometimes she does nap at all and sometimes 1pm, sometimes 3pm, sometimes 4pm (today 4pm) ..... I just shift her meal time accordingly lo and that’s why I have this snack time for her coz I will only let her eat her proper meal during dinner time together with us or else, we can’t have a peace and quite meal where she will climb all over us seeking for attention. The tea menu doesn’t have to be a full meal but something light and healthy, can be your bakings too .......... I find that Heinz baby biscuits (those import from UK one) really good leh, got Prebiotics which improve digestion and immune system and create good bacteria somemore ......... Nice isn’t it??

Esmeralda said...

Well, sorry to say that rice-in-soup is not in Ashton's vocabulary. It's either I feed him just soup, or just rice, else he will just reject the whole thing.. Talk about picky-eater.. Even Angel can tolerate rice-in-soup, but not Ashton.. *sigh*

I guess kids love dining outside too coz presentation and taste is much better (of coz with lots of MSGs & salt)..

Everyday Ashton took 1.5 cups of rice/porridge.. that a lot or not? Oh... organic soy sauce? Mind to share where you get to know about it? Wonder will they be available in KK? Well, price doesn't matter since they don't consume that much, as long it's healthy ya..

Ashton drinks 6-7oz of milk, which is much better than last time of less than 5oz...

So nice Angel can feed herself and dine with both of you... I still am going slow on him feeding himself coz I'm afraid of him messing it up oh... (should I be?) So usually dinner time will be either I take first (if hubby came back late) or hubby take his first lor..

Yup yup... Heinz BB Biscuits are superb!!! Even sometimes the unfinished piece, I will gobble up myself too.. hehe.. Probiotics are good for kids. Have you been giving Angel some probiotics as well? I'm giving Ashton Lacto-GG, heard of that?

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, oh … you have tried? Then Ashton really is a special boy who has his own ‘taste’ :)

OMG, you said Ashton took 1.5 cup of rice / porridge per day? The 1.5 cup is the measurement as in ‘uncooked rice’??? If so then THAT IS A LOT!!!! Normally Angel would only take 1/4 cup of rice per day coz her meal ‘normally’ is loaded with 3-4 different types of vege and 1 meat and I can get 3 small bowls of porridge out of that for 2 meals. Is that too little carbo ah?? Wow ….

The organic soy sauce is call Bragg Liquid Amino …. I told you before I was sourcing for healthy options of seasoning for Angel, right?? So one of the places I look for was the organic shop lo and found out about this soy sauce. I think I have seen some mommies using this for their kid as well but couldn’t remember where I have seen it …. It really is much lesser in terms of saltiness!! So I think / guess my battle with the picky eater ordeal will be soon over ….….. hopefully!! More info here http://bragg.com/products/la.html

Will there be unfinished pieces when it comes to Heinz Baby Biscuits? Hahaha …. That doesn’t happen here with Angel :P ya, I have heard of the goodness of probiotics for kids but so far, never tried that on Angel yet.

Esmeralda said...

Yup, tried & tested few times but he just won't accept rice-in-soup.. *sigh*

Yes.. Ashton took 1.5 cups rice/porridge per day.. That's the uncooked rice measurement. A lot right? That's why there's seldom tea for him lor... That's why u asked me the meal span duration so long... Well, actually you can try increasing some carbo to Angel's meal a bit, and see how's her appetite or eating pattern is then you can decide whether it's a lot or little carbo for her. Different kinds, different style.. but since you said she tooke different kinds of veg, I think it's healthier though and doesn't need much addition of carbo unless her weight gain is not 'pretty'...

Are her veges cooked till soft - just pure steaming/stir-fry? Ashton is a carnivor.. need to hide the veges before he eats them oh...

Thanks for d info regarding the organic soy sauce. I just bought a bottle from Natural Health Farm at RM9.80 made in Japan.. Will try it on Ashton tomorrow..

I think now Ashton is bored with Heinz BB Biscuits already, so sometimes he just take few bites, and the rest he pushes to my mouth - ask me to eat lar...

Well, my paed told me that it's the preventive measure now esp when the flu season is in, and when they start to go to playschools... My lil' cousin took tis, and indeed it helps a lot in preventing him from getting flu from other kids when he go to playschool.. It's up to you, if you think that Angel is OK, don't have too...

Esmeralda, my hubby don’t believe Ashton manage to take 1.5 cups of rice / porridge per day leh, LoL. Is your measuring cup smaller then ours coz just now me and hubby have dinner, I cook 1.5 cup of rice and I have 1 huge plate and hubby have 2 huge plates and we were so stuff!!! So imagine Ashton is having 1 huge plates per meal … gosh!!! (My hubby is considering having huge appetite already). That’s adult portion of rice wor ….. can he really eat that much at such young age??? I am so envy lar …..

BTW, what dish you make for Ashton lunch and dinner if he is having rice? Can he eat those vege after taking so much rice? As for Angel, normally I just steam it until it’s cook / soft. To be frankly, I seldom stir fried angel’s dish coz if she can take steaming food then it’s better coz it’s less oily, less heaty and also healtier. But if we were outside she will eat most of the food we eat :) Then I have tried the stir fried eggs and also deep fried to-hu and she don’t like them, so I am more then happy to continue steaming her food :)

Oh …. You also got yourself an organic soy sauce ya? How was the taste? Ashton loves it?

Ya, one thing you are right about going to playschool, our kids will tend to get sick easily because so many kids there. I think I will also be giving her the probiotic when she starts her preschool la, like you said as a preventive measure :)

You have to believe me lar... Yes 1 day he takes 1.5 cups of porridge to be exact. But usually will be 3/4 bowl (big soup bowl) each meal de.. That a lot ya? That's what he always take. My aunt also make noise said too much oh! But he seems fine with that. My rice cup is the normal rice cup lar.. Maybe coz he don't take any veges *sigh* only the porridge, and some meat which I cooked together with the porridge. Other than that, nothing else. Ashton don't take veges.. what more steam? The only veg he can take directly is stir-fried sweet long beans. Other than that, it's either chopped spinach, carrots, pumpkin, potatoes or brocolli in the porridge (have to hide)...

Angel's eating habit is much more healthy.. The only compensation is that he takes fruits lar..

Yup got the organic soy @ RM12 (I think I gv u the price wrongly previously). It's OK, taste like the Japanese Kikkoman soy sauce - less salty. Today he took it - OK lar..

Esmeralda, if Angel could that in that much of porridge, I will be so happy :) As long as Ashton can eat and not put on weight too fast (actually he looks tall and just the right size!!) which means the portion is just right for him!

It’s good that Ashton loves fruits. Angel loves fruits a lot too apart from avocado.

Today I also start adding tiny bit of salt into Angel’s meal, taste really nice wor ….. Kekeke. The soy sauce I got was also very nice when taking with porridge, very aromatic and also less salty! I think she is more willing to take her meal now and her appetite is ALMOST back to normal after not exposing her to those CNY treats for a month + keep cooking and feeding her vege porridge + adding tiny bit of seasoning into her meal ……. and I am the most happy person in the world now :)

Esmeralda said...

Haha.. yeah he seemed to lose weight by the look of it, but when go to weigh him, did not lose weight at all..

Actually by adding a bit of salt, it will enhance the sweetness of the porridge (of coz not plain porridge - that's what I found out after experimenting with & without salt)...

Am glad that Angel is back to her normal healthy diet again... so envy u that she can take veg oh!

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, I think your Ashton is growing vertically but my Angel is growing horizontally :)

Sigh .... sadly to say that today she don't want to take her meal again even with the salt and soy sauce .... I think she wants loads of chucky pork meat in her meal coz today I changed her menu to chicken instead ... sigh!! That's what a call a picky eater!!!

Esmeralda said...

Haha.. such a funny illustration on how Ashton & Angel grow ya... ;)

How did u cook the chicken? Pork meat is much sweater and fragrance in taste, that's why... I think they just love lots and lots of meat...

MommyAngel said...

Like usual, I put those mince chicken meat into her porridge but chicken meat's colour is not as dark as pork (so she can't see them clearly hence don't want to eat her food) and also she can't feel them as compare to pork meat which is more rough in texture! Maybe I should make those meat more 'visible' to her so that she would eat them. More experiment to do until I get her meals right then ..... Oh!!

Esmeralda said...

What an Angel! I do agree with you when you said the colour of chicken meat is less visible compared to pork. But sometimes Ashton also refuse to eat his porridge when he didn't see the pork in his porridge (previously I minced the meat, but now, only sliced thinly so that he can see it). Sometimes I even have to point to him saying "this is meat"... *sigh* Kids...

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, hahahaha …. It’s so funny when I imagine you are feeding Ashton while pointing at the meat in his porridge and say “This is meat!!” (as if you are saying “This is meat O-K ??? Now eat it!!!!”) kakakakakaka …… ironically, I did the same too, hahaha!!

Esmeralda said...

Haha.. yup Caroline... I've been doing that all the time... and sometimes if he really paid no attention, I even bring up the meat close to his eyes! And yes... It's my way of telling him "look... this is the meat... real meat... and I'm not lying to you"... Coz he knew if I said there's meat in it, but when he ate it he found that there's no meat, he will spit them out!

MommyAngel said...

Ashton, hahaha .... kids!! Maybe next time I should let Angel feed Ashton and Ashton feed her back and let us mommies have some rest ya! I bet if kids who are feeding them, I think they will wallop up everything even if it's just plain porridge! At least that's the case with Angel .... I think.

Esmeralda said...

Not a bad idea indeed Caroline... Ashton loves to feed people. Everyday sure get the spoon to feed me instead!

MommyAngel said...

Hahahaha .... that is really funny la!! Angel never feed me, she just pick up the stuffs she don't want from the porridge and give it to me, just like that. She wants to keep the spoon to herself :P :P Kekekeke ..

Esmeralda said...

Same here. Ashton also is fascinated with his spoon.. or I can say with cutleries... our spoon & fork also became his toys sometimes... Kids...

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, will he put those spoon and fork into his mouth? Once I let Angel play with our spoon and the hard metal (spoon) hurt her gums coz she bite on those spoon real hard, after that I don't dare to let her play with it already.

Esmeralda said...

Oh dear... she bite real hard ya? Poor thing! Must hurt a lot ya... Ashton will put the spoon/fork in his mouth as if eating lar.. but so far he won't bite the steel spoon/fork.. even now I use small stainless steel teaspoon to feed him coz I don't want him to use too much of "plastic-ware". He will feed himself with the teaspoon also, but sometimes can't aim properly to his mouth lar...

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, hahahaha ..... to the contrary, I always use plastic spoon to feed Angel and I hope it won't pose of harm to her ya .... *wondering*

It takes time for Ashton to master the feeding skills so don't worry. Sooner or later he will be able to do it perfectly but mind you, the more perfect thier skills, the more messy it will be because they will start playing with thier meal instead, sigh!!

Esmeralda said...

Make sure she didn't bite the plastic spoons ya...

Now Ashton starts to "dig" in his food with the spoon whenever I let him hold his spoon to feed himself, but not putting them in his mouth.. He just wanna play the "digging-game"... *sigh* Starting to get worried that he just wanna play with his food liao lor...

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, hahaha .... I will *sweat*

I think kids tends to play with their food. Angel also start doing that once in awhile but I did tell her off so when she knows I am looking, she won't dare to do that instead, she will be making the crying sound asked me to look away ..... hahahaha, as if I would :P :P
