Prune Spread

I bought a pack of preserved Prune for Angel but I think it is way too sweet for a toddler. So normally I would add the prunes into her plain yogurt or cereal but today, I decided to make a puree out of those prunes and spread it over some bread during Angel’s tea break for a change. So Angel and me did some bread-cutting in the kitchen and she is having a good time playing with those bread cutters. Of course I didn’t get her to do the jam spreading as she does not want to get her hands on those ‘black’ looking prune spread. I think this is the very first time she saw such a big black patch of prunes spread over her beloved bread and feels a bit reluctant to hold them. I noticed that she is more colour observant towards her food now and she would normally refused food which looks totally black / dark green in colour :(

As she refused her bread so I have to eat them in front of her making a ‘delicious’ face and then sandwiched the prune spread nicely in between those bread so she couldn’t see them ….. and finally, she tried those bread and seems to like them too. Although I have added some water to make the prune more watery and less sweet but I think it’s still too sweet for my liking. I am still thinking a way to tune down the sweetness of those prunes further more …....

I have 2 question here, which brand of prunes you buy? Your bread cutter looks interesting, where you buy it?

Hi JT, the prunes I have is Del Monte Pitted Prunes. The yellow water in the bottle is actually apple juice.

Hi Kristie, the high chair is a Japanse brand – Katoji baby chair which hubby bought in Thailand while outstation. It does look very cute right? I love it to pieces :)

Hi Mummy Gwen, she does look very grown up in those picture hor …. She will look like a baby when she’s standing beside us (especially hubby) but she will look very grown up when she’s taking picture a lone :)

Hi Doreen, if Ryan don’t like fruits, try hide it into some other food. Sometimes I did add in fruits like Honey Dew, Apples, etc into Angel’s porridge.

Hi Serene, the prunes I have got is Del Monte Pitted Prunes. Sometimes we can get fresh prunes from the market too but cannot keep that long la. As for the bread cutters, the one I am using are actually a cookie cutter, which I got from shops which selling baking stuffs and utensils in my hometown (my mom loves baking so she got a lot of that too). I also have some other cookie cutters from 100 yen shop and also Daiso (I also starts to collect and buying bento stuffs) but I think those metal one sold in the baking shop is much better then those plastic type for cutting bread.

Hi Natalie, yes … I have to make the bread look more ‘interesting’ now as my Angel is marching into the stage where she is more and more picky towards her food nowadays :(

Hi Sha, ya ... she is more picky about her food lately so I have to do it as nice as possible :)

I am using those normal metal cookie cutters where ppl used to buat cookie and kuih one, can get it in the shop selling normal baking stuffs. Can also get those plastic ones from Daiso / 100 yen shop.

Ashton also has the tendency to shy-away from black foodstuffs/drinks, esp herbal drinks or soups. Nowadays toddlers are really amazing...

MommyAngel said...

Esmeralda, yes .... they really are. But one thing I am glad is they can differentiate colours now!!! :) :) I think I will have a picky eater at home very soon.

Esmeralda said...

Yup, it's their stage of growing up.. and it's good that they can differentiate "nice & attractive" coloured food compared with "dull" coloured food.. don't worry. U hv all the time and patience to deal with picky eaters..

Is Del Monte Pitted Prunes same taste as other types of prunes? You are such a great mommy, not only prepared nice prune jam for Angel, you also prepared nice apple juice for her.

Esmeralda, hahaha ... no time and no patience to deal with a picky eaters latley leh :P Luckily I enjoy cooking for Angel :)

Hi JT, I think the prunes taste the same .... very sweet :) Actually I didn't do the juice that day, it's a Pure Crush apple juice (in the glass bottle type) which I bought from the supermarket :P :P

MommyAngel said...
