Before Angel turned 5 years old few weeks ago, we asked her how she wanted to celebrate her birthday. So, here's a summary of her list:
1. She wants to Celebrate @ her "Shanghai Home" (Top of Angel's list!!)
Ok ok ... since no Disneyland so I think Shanghai is not bad too ya :) Daddy's hard earn $$$$ all gone to flight company liao, hu~ hu~ hu~ *crying*
2. Eat Haagen Dazs 100 time! @_@
I know you didn't gets to eat ice cream very much but 100 time is way too much, my dear!
And also, Haagen Dazs in Shanghai is so expensive as compare to KL and this 3 small scope cost us around RM40++.
Nope, she only gets to eat 3 times of her favourite ice cream within a week and no more :P :P
3. She wants to go to Toys 'R Us
...... and stay there long long time, not only "5 minutes" as she puts it *hahahaha*
Have to put her jacket back on as inside is a bit freezing. I just bought this jacket from H&M KL not long ago. Quite a good bargain, but looks like she will soon outgrow from it :(
She stays in Toys R Us for a good 1 hour and me + hubby are like her bodyguard, waiting for her patiently, following her everywhere till she is done with all the touching here and there.
4. She wants a Double-Decker Bus ride @_@
Although she is very prone to car sickness but she just can't stop from asking to go for a Double-Decker bus ride whenever she is back in Shanghai! And she will turn very quiet after a few rounds feeling car sick but still, she doesn't want to get down from the bus!
No tourists on the bus that day!
So we transformed into 2 tourists touring Shanghai for a day again :P :P
RMB 100 (50 ringgit) per person -Shanghai Big Bus Tour. There is also a cheaper version of this double decker bus at RMB 30 (15 ringgit) per person - City Bus Tour, but expect more tourists and fighting for good seats lo.
We went to The Bund (上海滩) at the far end, can you see it?
5. Insisted to go to Nanjing Walking Street
This is another place that Angel must go. The very famous Nanjing Walking Street (南京步行街). Why????
Sigh, she is totally hooked with this little train which takes passenger from the beginning of Nanjing Street to the end of the street. She then will pay for another train ride and take the train back to where we start our journey.
Again, when she is up, she refused to get down!!
RMB 2 (1 ringgit) per trip per person one way including children, reached destination less then 3 minutes per trip.
6. Drink Coke and Japanese Food @ 和民
Ok, this is not in her list actually but after the Double Decker bus rides followed by a few rounds of that little train ride in Nanjing road, mommy is getting really car sick and need to find a place to sit down!
Too dizzy to even take picture of the food too but tell you, this restaurant is fabulous!!!
She gets to have her favourite drinks of all - coke + lemon and she told me, "Mommy, this lemon coke is so nice oh!" and drank 2 glasses!!!!
7. Dessert @ 恒记甜品
This is her must must list to do too!! This is by far her most favourite dessert of all!!
She managed to finished a big bowl even after a full meal!!!!!! RMB30++ (15 ringgit) per bowl of her most most most most favourite mix fruit in mango juice dessert.
"No sharing please .... not enough for me when it comes to this mango dessert!" :P
8. Go to the Great Wall, Beijing
For some reason, she starts asking about Great Wall after seeing a picture of it and tell us she wants to go to the Great Wall.
So we did make it a trip to the Great Wall in Beijing. Not a very ideal place for family with young children especially those active ones *gulp* and I almost have heart attack watching Angel making her climb!!
And half way, she did ask daddy to carry her! Carrying a 20kg kid walking up on a slippery steps?? We can't even walk steadily ourselves and too many people on the great wall pushing each other around.
So we sweet talked her into walking herself and this girl is like a wild horse let loose! @_@ So dangerous throughout the journey and my blood pressure raised quite a few times throughout the climb. And I am glad, I am glad that we make it safe and sound!!
So at the end, this little tough girl successfully complete this very dangerous journey and slippery climb all by herself! Long relief from mommy and daddy but a big Well Done my girl! Well done daddy too!! Well done mommy!!! *phew phew phew*
9. She want To Eat Something "Special"!
Or should I say she wants mommy to eat something "special"? She actually begged me to EAT those "still alive" scorpions still moving on that "satay stick"!!!! (or is that lava that I saw???) Eeeeewwww .... No Thank You!!!
I would never ever eat those even when I have nothing to eat, will you??? *yucks!!!*
I think eating a steamboat the Beijing-way is consider special too, my sweetie??
It's call 北京老火锅 :) Steamboat in a very ancient Beijing style hot pot using "burning hot charcoal" to heat up the soup which they dropped it in the middle opening as you can see from the picture :) :)
Again, steaming hot pot which is definitely VERY dangerous especially with kids who can't sit still and always wants to touch here and there whenever you didn't pay attention!!! And adding to that, a bunch of very careless and carefree waitresses who is walking pass by with hot burning charcoal and hot soup all night long?
*we had a very 'stressful' dinner that night* hahahahaha
10. The forbidden City of Beijing
She is very happy indeed as her dreams finally comes true as she has transform into the Little ancient Princess - 小格格 wearing that little outfit we rented from the The Forbidden City. She keep posing even for the other tourists who is taking her picture as if she is the movie star.
She looks very tired as it's way past her napping time. The Forbidden City is much bigger then I thought too! So tired ..... but feels great!
Everything is the same as seen on the TV dramas here :) :)
11. She wants to swim!
After a hectic day, she demand for her swimming and splashing time!
Ok .... we can't swim in the cold winter weather but we sure can swim in the warm hotel room bath tub :P :P Another must do thing which she enjoys to the max!!!!
Why not the pool but the hotel bath tub you might ask?
Answer: Daddy and mommy are too tired to even move a finger let alone swimming! That's why :)
At the end of the day, this has become her most favourable thing to do out of the entire list!!
Hhhhmmmm, in that case, should we just omitted the rest and skipped to list no. 11 instead next time? *thinking*
Mommy and Daddy had great fun and hope that my little girl had a whale of a time too :)

I Found The Little Angel In Her
I was having a terrible tummy ache and our little girl has been asking me out for a pizza for days. Hubby was attending his usual 'business' dinner with his clients and will be heading home late. I was lying in bed when she woke up from her long nap and without being helped, she got herself all dressed up in her outdoor outfit, walked into my room ready to get going while she saw me still not getting ready yet lying lifelessly on bed.
"Angel, mommy is having a tummy ache so we might not be going for a pizza today ok?" I said
She looked at me and frown then suddenly putting both her hands on my tummy and pressed hard while I was groaning in pain and asked what was she doing.
"Mommy, I massage your tummy ah ...."
"If mommy's tummy pain-pain nevermind la, we go next time la." Then still with her outdoor outfit on, she went back to her room and watched the TV without protesting for the sudden changed of plans.
Ater few hours tossing and turning on the bed, I drag myself up and get changed as I have a promise to keep. It's heart breaking to see disappointment in my girls' eyes especially when she is being such an angel. When she saw me get ready to go, her eyes all brighten up and jumping around in joy while repeating "Mommy, I love you so-very much mommy!" *kids are so easy to please*
So we walked down the streets, a very windy night at 10pm where most shops have closed and our girl who normally refused me to hold her hands who always jumping and doing her dangerous hip hop moves on the streets, grasp my hand tightly *surprise* while constantly checking on me
"Mommy, is your tummy still (in) pain? I hold your hand ok? We walk slowly ok? Is that slow-slow enough mommy?" She really doesn't sound like the normal loud and noisy little girl that she was.
Luckily, the pizza shop is opened 24 hours *yeah*. As I climbed up the stairs, she hold on tight to my hands tightly and said
"Mommy, you walk slowly ok?"
"Mommy, don't worry, I will listen to you and not make you angry ok?"
I look at my girl unbelievably and with a feeling of contentedness which I never felt before. ^_^
^ ^ Looking at the menu to see what's she wants to eat
So she ordered her own food *I didn't know she could do that* for the very first time, eating herself without being constantly reminded to and even helped me to 'take care' of my mobile phone when I was walking to get our drinks from the counter.
^ ^ Little pussy cat ^_^
On the way back, we were making stops all the way home because this little constantly hugging both my legs repeatedly and the only words she said to me was
"Mommy, I love you so-very much!" ^_^ That's the sweetest magic potion on earth and I feels so warm holding her little hands in mine walking down the windy lane.
When we headed back home, she didn't protest like she normally does. She gets herself changed back to her pajamas, hang all her clothes back to where they should be and even helped me to do the dishes in the kitchen, sweep the floor, gets the mop ready for me and then watched her cartoon without ..... without creating any 'trouble' at all.
She even helped me to fetch my pajamas when I was about to take my bath and even helped me to blow dry my hair ^_^ I am being served like a queen ^_^
Tonight was so incredibly ..... Warm and PEACEFUL, for once since many many months years ago. There was once crossed my mind that how nice that it would be if I can be sick more often I am healthy and well while she will behave so angelically for the rest of her growing years.
Tonight, I am smiling in my dream because .......
~~~~ I finally get a little glimpse of that little ANGEL in my girl ^_^ ~~~~
Shopping Can Be Fun For Kids Too
Although I am just back from our HK trip few weeks ago but I think I left my heart there (ops!) There were so many nice places to visit which time is never enough and oh my, the malls were loaded with so many cutest stuffs for kids as if I thought I was walking into one of stephen joseph's stores. And for adults, we were spoil with choices too making me felt that I have left with so little money to spare with so many things to buy.
Don't think I am the only one who loves shopping but shopping can be fun for kids too. I think my Angel is having such great fun during our trip and shopped more then I do while I was watching her every move closely and babysitting her in the mall for it was so packed with tourists! She would touched whatever comes into her sight at this age, try on new shoes for herself and even flip through adults clothing as well! There was once she found a torn-designed pair of jeans on the display and shouted at me saying, "Mommy look!!! It's torn! Why they don't fixed it and put it here huh?!" and shook her head! My baby Angel, somehow you would love such torn jeans when you gets older :P
^ ^ Why it was torn mommy?
Of course she would constantly be watching out for toys stores, car racing arcades (which I tried to avoid at all times) and of course the play area for kids! Once she saw the huge bouncy air castle or the slides, she would be hooked there for a good 1/2 an hour before we manage to
^ ^ Happily in the kids playing area
Upon arriving the children store, normally I would be looking for new items added and also browsing at one of those cute kids laundry bag which would be perfect even for a normal outings. Oh, so hard to resist on cute little stuffs. Angel would be working her hands on the legos in the kids area. But the most interesting spot for her would be the indoor slides as well as the TV games station. I hardly saw her showing any interest in the cute cuddly toys or the board games nowadays.
^ ^ Hooked!
I am glad so far, Angel is more then happy to shop for the entire day with us but would show a little grumpiness at times when it's way past her napping time. In fact, I am delighted to see the sign because once she falls asleep in her stroller finally, it's time for me and hubby to have some break from babysitting her and it's time for us to do some real shopping. Sometimes we suggested to head home for her nap but she told us she prefers to nap in her stroller instead and would wake up a happily kid continue with her shopping day out till shops closes around late evening. A shopping queen she was.
I must admit that it's kind of hard to shop for anything with kids tagging along but somehow, I think she enjoys herself to the fullest! Fortunately I love shopping for kids stuffs and doesn't mind staying in a children store for hours rather then doing the boring lawn mowing on my weekends, which I would be gratefully leaving the job to Dallas landscaping for a job well done.
Our X'mas Eve
X'mas is our most favourite season of the year! Even the day has gone by, Angel is still wishing me "Merry Christmas" every morning @_@ She told me she loves Christmas so much and even asked me whether Santa will give her any gifts this year :P X'mas to us also means celebrating with food food food!!
^ ^ Yummy Curry Pork Wrap at 蛋蛋屋 restaurant
So on our X'mas eve, we decided to dine out and do our last minute X'mas shopping as well. Since everywhere was so packed, we settle for a restaurant 蛋蛋屋 near Popular Book Store at 美罗城 mall. The queue was quite long that night.
^ ^ The weather is so cool and windy so we wrapped ourselves up like a dumpling especially 'yours truly' :P I think I wore 3 layers of thick clothes and 2 pants!! :P :P
This 蛋蛋屋 restaurant was famous in all egg specialty dishes. So we ordered their famous Curry Egg Rice, Tuna stuffed eggs, Fried Bomb (egg), Stuffed Fish Balls, etc. I personally think that they taste really good! Pay a visit there if you happens to be in Shanghai but be prepared for long queues especially during lunch and dinner hour :)
^ ^ Dishes we ordered! All were so yummy and Angel loves the stuffed fish balls!
^ ^ So many X'mas trees in each and every shop in the mall!!! Only manage to capture a couple here due to too crowded! People was everywhere!!!
We manage to do our last minute Christmas shopping that night. Angel cried out loud for our camera out of a sudden and we have to give in to her request for we don't want to deal with a crying kid in such a crowded place on our X'mas eve. Passers-by continuously stopping to see how our little girl insisted to give us 'instruction' as to how we suppose to pose (@_@) and snapping our couple portraits! Although most of the pictures came out blurry but at least, she is satisfied :)
^ ^ Angel was happily snapping away in the mall and lastly but not the least, she even manage to snap few of her own self portraits :P :P
You are looking great, My Sweetie ^_^
Overcame her fear of ...... [3Y6M]
...... Kiddy rides! ^_^ For some reason Angel is EXTREMELY afraid of all the kiddy rides! She hasn’t really been on a kiddy rides since young let alone standing anywhere near them at all and if she does, she would asked me,” Not to put money, ok?” so that the kiddy rides doesn’t move or she would tell us, “Angel touch only, Angel don’t want to sit on, ok? Ok mommy?!” So only 2 'moving' rides she has ever got up onto till now was the Merry-Go-Round and the choo-choo train rides back in Bangkok.
^ ^ These pictures seems like ages ...... Angel is still so chubby and ‘Little’ then ^_^
So one fine day when I was shopping for some autumn outfit for her in a shop near Carrefour 大埔桥road, suddenly hubby show me Angel is sitting on a ‘moving’ 喜羊羊 (Pleasant Goat – that’s what they call it in Astro! :D) ^_^ Although she still show some reserved in her face but when the rides is finally over, she quickly hopped down from it and asked hubby for another RMB1 coin :) She took 4 rides that night until we have to drag her out of the shop and of course, she is crying profusely refused to leave!
^ ^ Angel: I still look a bit puzzled, don’t I? :D
So we promised to bring her to a place called 卡通尼乐园 at 金桥广场 which is a kids wonderland. I can see all kids and even some parents (ahem!) are having a great fun indulging themselves with the massive rides and games with their kids in the fun land. This is the very first time that she is willing to get on to those kiddy rides voluntarily and we are so happy to watched her having so much fun at last!
^ ^ Angel: Yeah ...... I can enjoy all the rides now ^_^
^ ^ This particular car rides moves pretty fast too and looks like a mini roller coaster but she is doing just fine with it :)
Besides all the kiddy rides, she is so busy trying her hands on all the different machines and games which she could found there. Not only Angel is having a great time but me and hubby were also having great fun that day. But due to time constrains, Angel doesn’t have the chance to get into their toddler gym yet. Maybe next round then.
The next day, we woke up with sore muscles on our arms from excessive balls throwing and playing games while Angel have an extra long night sleep till the late afternoon. She must be exhausted from the outing :)
^ ^ Angel loves fish catching and this young lady managed to scoop a full basin of gold fishes unbelievably!! She is really good in it!!
Our Freezing Weekend
It’s our very special weekend as it’s freezing cold!!! The winter has just arrived here in Shanghai and the temperature has dropped tremendously to around 2 – 4 degree C with strong wind and constant rain. When walking outside, it’s like walking inside a gigantic freezer with strong icy wind forcing its way strong into every inch of your body *shivering* Smokes begins to form once we starts talk (Angel loves that) and the wet weather has also made such cold weather slightly hard to bare at times ….
Despite the cold weather, I drag hubby out of the house and we went to get some extra winter clothing and extra thick pajamas for Angel. I didn’t expect that the winter over here can be as cold as the UK!! Once we step out of the house, Angel start showing an excited face once cold winds blew onto her face and told me “COLD ~~~” showing me a huge grin on her face plus doing some extra shivery movements, kekekeke. I think she enjoys the cold weather here a lot so I would try my best to bring her out of the house once a week normally during the weekends just to get some fresh air and sunshine. Maybe due to the cold weather, she is having a great appetite that day and managed to polish off 2/3 of an adult full portion of meal!!
She is so hungry!! She finish 2/3 of that extra large bowl of rice + 1 plate of steam chicken with mushroom (an adult full portion) all by herself.
After a 6 hours of shopping marathon, I am glad that we finally managed to find some decent winter pajamas for Angel to fight the cold weather and few nice jackets for her outings. Clothing and stuffs can be super duper expensive here in Shanghai (which is something unexpected) but we really have no energy to look further as such cold weather is making all of us super lazy and best just to hibernating inside the warm cozy home :P
As we have left Angel’s old stroller behind while we left Bangkok, hence we got Angel a new stroller too because we do find that it’s very convenient for us to have that with an active kid who constantly want us to ‘carry’ while we were out shopping. I am so happy with the stroller as it’s extremely light weight and so easy to maneuver ^_^ It can carry to the maximum of 18kg so I guess Angel can still be able to used that for another year or so. Surprisingly, Angel seems to love this new stroller of hers compare to her old stroller (coz the shade can be fully covered) and wanted me to pushed her around the house with the shade down while she lies comfortably inside enjoying herself so much. Finally, I need to coax her to come down from her stroller and told her that the stroller need to ‘take a rest now’ and there is when she demand me to take a picture of her posing with the folded stroller *laugh* I certainly hope that once we were out, she will behave, cooperate and willing to sit on her new stroller as she would at home.
Going To Pasar Ramadan
We brought Angel to the Pasar Ramadan near our place. In order to avoid the crowd, we went there very early, around 4PM and not much patrons can be seen at that time but most of the stall have set up their food with a few stalls which was not ready yet. The market were filled with all kinds of Malay savories such as Satay, Barbecue Wings (I love this), Redang, Nasi Lemak, Kuih Makmur, Abc (love love love this one) …… and a lot more of the Malay food delicacies which I absolutely love but can’t simply remembered the correct name of the dish and kueh :P
We really love Malay food especially Angel's grandma as we used to go to our relatives Hari Raya Open House here every year. But too bad that they have all moved to another place already. Missed the time spend with them and the their lovely open house food a lot!!
Angel was not interested with the food at all, instead, she found those huge umbrella very interesting and would hang on to each and every one of it while we are busy shopping for food. She hold onto them as in the picture below, sometimes would shake them furiously if she saw us not watching her calling out “ UM-BEAR-NA~~~”! Sometimes if she saw kids playing and running around, she would follow them around too so really have to keep an eyes on her all the time before she is missing in action again. Luckily it was not crowded at such early time hence Angel’s grandma still able to buy a lot of food while I keep an eye on this active little girl wondering around happily ^_^
After a quick round, we only found out that we have bought too many of the food that enough even for the next day! We didn’t headed home right away but instead, we went and have a in-car picnic at the beach while Angel’s grandma can’t wait to munched on her stick of Beef Satay while me sipping on my BBQ Wings once jumping inside the car LOL. Angel gets to share some of the Sugar Cane drink too but since her tummy is not feeling well, we didn’t let her try any of the food that we bought. It’s such a nice day to be able to get out of the house once in awhile despite the H1N1 when the crowd has not started.
Angel Went Karaoke
Last week, we brought Angel to the karaoke for the very first time. She was very happy when she knows that she is going to kai kai and the next thing she would normally do is to take a look at herself then starts pointing at her clothes saying “Mei Mei~~ (pretty)!” which means she is dressing up nicely signifies she wants to follow us too :)
First Figurine Painting [2Y4M]
We walked pass this figurine painting area in CT mall when Angel spotted the kids tables and chairs at the side and refused to make a move! The shop assistance came forward and show us the choice of figurines that we can buy and paint on the spot but Angel’s grandma smiles and told him politely,
“I don’t think she knows how to do it yet ….. still too young!”
and hesitated in getting Angel the figurine. But since Angel doesn’t want to make a move, it’s not that nice that we let her play there without getting anything from the shop so I decided to get the smallest figurine for her just for fun. For worst, I am going to do the painting myself then :P I asked Angel to choose so she pointed at the sheep.
“不要(don’t want) ~~ 不要(don’t want) ~~”
pushing the shop assistant’s hand away and signaling him to leave her alone instead *laugh* Kids~~!!!
After she was done, I just quickly do some white outline for her (without altering any colour that she painted), painted the leg of the rainbow sheep black and also do the necessary features on the sheep’s face. When I handed the figurine to the shop assistance for the final shine spraying, he was amazed too and told me “Oh, that’s pretty good!!”
When Angel grandma finally saw the final outcome of the figurine, she asked “Eh, how come it’s becoming so pretty already after the shiny spray??” and I just smile. Then suddenly she said, “Then tomorrow we could bring her to do the large one again loh …..” Hahahaha …. Who is the one saying that Angel is still too young for the figurine painting initially? *giggle*
I do think that the rainbow sheep looks very nice after the shinny spray :) Sometimes I am pretty amazed by what a young toddler is able to perform at such young age :) I am glad that Angel enjoyed the painting process so much which is priceless to me and now we have Angel’s first Happy Rainbow Sheep sitting on our computer desk :)
